First Time Setup
1. Default Configuration
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
2. Network Configuration
Pepwave Express acts as a CPE bridge between the wireless and wired Ethernet interface. It allows the device on the Ethernet interface to connect to the network via the wireless connection. The make-before-break ability allows it to maintain a robust and seamless wireless connection during high-speed moving.
A typical setup is as follows:

3. PC Setup
Prior to the Pepwave Express configuration, a computer with its Local Area Connection configured to a static IP address in the same subnet as the Pepwave Express is required (i.e. IP: 192.168.0.x, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0).

In the field Wireless Network Name (SSID) under Wi-Fi WAN Settings, enter your access point’s SSID. According to the setting of the access point you are associating to, you may choose a different Authentication setting.
Enter the corresponding Encryption Key if Static WEP Key, 802.1x with Dynamic WEP Key, WPA/WPA2 - Enterprise or WPA/WPA2 - Personal is selected.
Select the Channel Scanning Mode. Mode Single, Selective or Ch. 1, 6 & 11 gives higher efficiency than “Full” channel scanning mode. Please select base on your network setup.
Click Save to store your changes.

6. Network Access
After the Pepwave Express is associated to the network, it starts to bridge traffic between the Ethernet port and the wireless network. PCs and network devices behind the Pepwave Express can communicate and obtain IP address from the AP side network.
7. Status Monitoring
Pepwave Express connects to two networks in a “make-before-break” manner to provide seamless roaming. The radio with the strongest signal strength is chosen as the “Active Radio”. The Active Radio is responsible for transferring and receiving data packets while the backup radio continues searching for APs nearby.
Below is the screenshot of the Monitor page.
The Monitor page visualizes the real-time signal strength and the association status of the two radios via a plot.
In the above example, Wi-Fi 1 acts as the “Active” radio during while Wi-Fi 2 acts as the backup radio.

8. Logging
The Log page shows the roaming history of the unit. It records the AP it associates to, signal strength of the two Wi-Fis, and the status of the Active Radio. The APs associated are represented by different coloring dots. Once the mouse pointer is hovered on the point, you can easily find the MAC address of the AP associated to.
Through this log, potential issues and information such as AP coverage, signal strength, stability of the roaming can be found.
To store this log, you can use the “save as” feature of the browser.
