Welcome to Week One of Term 4☺
While Mr Skippen is enjoying a well-deserved break during this first week back, I am standing in his place. If you have anything urgent please feel free to contact me, otherwise Mr Skippen will be back next Monday morning.
The last term of school is always a busy time, filled with lots of learning, sporting events, camps, day trips and end of year celebrations and awards nights. It is a term where students finish off their learning for the year, prepare for transitions, whether that be from primary to high school, year 10 to year 11 or the workforce, and, prepare for end of year events. It can be exciting but also “full on”. We will work with the students on our school value of being “Always Resilient”, digging deep to stay positive, keep trying, never giving up and always having a go at something new.
Speaking of having a go at something new. This year we introduced co-planning, where I had the opportunity to sit with teachers in a one on one situation and develop their unit plans. This has been an awesome opportunity for the teachers, myself and the students. Our teachers have created the most interesting units, filled with excellent learning opportunities, rigor, depth and inquiry based learning. The students have been accessing the Australian Curriculum in interesting ways and having a great time learning. Our teachers have shown the kids their love of learning, the importance of life-long learning, and how they can learn with the children. I must admit, it is very exciting to see our teachers in action and teaching.
This week we have the Bowls Day at Peranga, thank you to Constable Chris for everything he does in organising these community events, and to our P & C who work tirelessly behind the scenes to help make these events successful. Raffle tickets were sent home with the students on Monday.
Yours in Education,

Welcome back to our last term. We have a very busy weekend coming up with the Police Charity Bowls Day on Saturday and the Brymaroo Campdraft on Sunday. We have been asked to supply home bake for Saturday as well as help make sandwiches at the bowls club at 8:30am Saturday morning. Home bake can be left at the prep room on Friday or at the bowls club on Saturday morning. If you can volunteer for sandwich making please let me know. On Sunday we have 2 shifts in the canteen at Brymaroo starting at 6am through until 2pm. Any time you can spare to help out her would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know ASAP and I will send out a roster by the end of the week.
Don’t forget our movie night coming up on 27th October and watch for the flyer coming home tomorrow!
The next P&C Meeting is on Monday 5 November at 7.00pm in the media room.
NAPLAN Online update Many Queensland state schools are currently undertaking training activities in preparation for NAPLAN Online. To help schools prepare for NAPLAN Online, our school will participate in a School Readiness Test (SRT) from 8 to 26 October 2018. The SRT is a familiarisation activity to help confirm each school’s technical, student and staff readiness, and will help our school prepare for a transition to NAPLAN Online. It is not an assessment of student ability and there will be no reporting of student test results. The SRT provides two tests that take approximately 40 minutes to complete: a writing test for Years 5, 7 and 9 and an omnibus test for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The collective learnings of Queensland schools taking part in the SRT will help transitioning schools to have positive experiences with NAPLAN Online. The NAPLAN Online SRT is delivered to students using a locked-down browser so that students cannot access the internet or spell checkers while testing. Interested families can view the technical requirements on the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority’s (ACARA) assessment platform website: https://www.assessform.edu.au/layouts/Technology/Overview.aspx NAPLAN Online will provide a better assessment for all, more precise results and faster turnaround of inf ormation. It will:
• Feature tailored testing which gives students questions that are more suited to their ability resulting in better assessment and more precise results.
• Provide a more engaging test experience for students. • Allow test results to be available within three weeks so teachers can identify learning priorities and meet individual student
needs early. Parents and carers can also familiarise themselves with the NAPLAN Online platform by using the public demonstration site available at: www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplan-online/naplan-online-public-demonstration-site. Further information about NAPLAN Online including frequently asked questions and answers are available at: www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplan-online. We will keep you up-to-date with how the training is progressing, but if there’s anything you need in the meantime you can contact Andrew Skippen.
