From the Desk:
Coaches,
Official practice has finally begun and the
season is just around the corner! It has been an abso-
lute joy to get back to planning and conducting prac-
tices in an effort to get this year’s team to be the best
it can be. To me, the essence of coaching is to teach
which occurs during each practice. There is no greater
impact a coach can have on his program than through
his ability to effectively plan practice. The planning
phase is such a critical part of the everyday process
of getting better. Assess where your team is, identify
the needs of the team, address them through practice
planning. Ensure that whatever is important to you
and your program is emphasized daily. For us, it is our
three anchors: shot selection, sureness, and defense.
As you spend time developing your team through this
preseason period, I urge you to answer these ques-
tions: 1) What does my team need today? And 2)
What are the voices in the locker room saying?
Go Statesmen!
- Jim Boone
Quote of the Month
“The question is not whether or not you have influence, but
what you will do with the influence that you have.”

“Everything starts off the field. Treat people well, go to class, do what’s assigned. If you strive for that, all the other stuff isn’t that
complicated.”
“We came to Kansas State because of the people, we stayed
because of the people, and we returned because of the people, and that remains unchanged.”
A Glimpse Behind the Warriors’ CurtainBy: Scott Cacciola
“You’re teaching the world that in this sport, college football, toughness, discipline and detail still matter. That’s your
platform. Your platform is ‘it is team above self.’ That’s the platform that you are using. And nobody wants to buy into
that in our culture today.
Scott Campbell: Message to Team after WIN vs. TCU
“OK, our culture says it’s all about me. Our culture says screw process, I want instant grati-fication. But here’s a fact, and young guys listen to me, if you fall in love with the process,
if you fall in love with the process, then eventually the process will love you back.”

3/3 Get Back
Teaching Points:
• Sprinting in conversion• Communication• Getting to Paint & Stopping the Ball• Blockout• Ensure guards bring ball up floor (not Bigs)
Drill Set-Up:• Offense attacks• Defense must sprint to paint & stop the ball• Rebounder outlets the ball & then gets out• Only way to get out of continuous drill is to rebound
the ball on the defensive end.
