Matt James

Brazilian Soul

Daniel Pinto spent eight years teaching at Jaime Arôxa Dance School, one of Brazil’s largest dance academies, and now offers their philosophy of dance to Brisbane.

Brazilian Soul will be performing and teaching two exhilarating Latin dance styles – sizzling Zouk at KG, and cheeky Forró at GP.

Performances & Workshops: 12.40pm – KG, 19 August 6pm – GP, 20 August

Forró Brazil

Brazilian guitarist Eddie Gazani and his band Forró Brazil have brought the ‘energia’ of Brazil to Brisbane, and their exciting beats will get you dancing!

This headline act rounds off our music offering and presents the perfect opportunity for you to practice the moves you’ll learn during Brazilian Soul’s Forró workshop.

Performance: 6.30pm – GP, 20 August

Utopian Fire

Fire has been a prominent part of ancient rituals, and has been incorporated into certain types of dances around the world for entertainment.

Za and Be Utopia are a husband and wife team who’ve joined their talents to create a fire dancing spectacular that will combine choreographed dance with fire eating and fire breathing! Performance: 5.45pm – GP, 20 August

QUT Pasifika Sway your hips, and move to the drumbeat, as these graceful dancers take you on an exotic journey through the pacific islands. Performance: 4.50pm – GP, 20 August

MASCATS Featuring students from QUT and across Brisbane, Malaysian Student Council Australia (MASCAT) has entertained locals and tourists in Queensland with their repertoire of performances promoting Malaysia’s unique and multicultural heritage. Performance: 5.35pm – GP, 20 August

Imon Chowdhooree

Doctoral student Imon will perform a semi-classical dance based on the National War Song of Bangladesh composed by revolutionary Bengali poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, whose work has received critical acclaim.

Free Henna Tattoos The glamour and good luck of henna body art (also known as Mehndi) has been a significant part of wedding traditions in India and the Middle East for centuries, and is used today to celebrate events and express a sense of style. Available: 12pm to 2pm – KG, 19 August 4.30pm to 6.30pm – GP, 20 August

Cheap and Tasty International Cuisine

Bring your appetite and stretchy pants! Our student clubs will tempt your tastebuds with Ramly Burgers, snacks and sweet treats alongside charcoal grilled deliciousness by Brazilyum, and Tasty Creation’s signature Grilled Pork Roll and Borneo Style Laksa.

QUT Dragon Boat Regatta 2014 Cheer our teams as they race down the river in our third annual Dragon Boat Regatta, and enjoy fantastic live entertainment from lion dancers, Taiko drummers, and the QUT Dance Society.
