Backflow Preventer System
For CTS®/ IBO® Hollow Bars
CTS®
The CTS® Preventer is used to install micropiles and tie-back anchors in areas
where water ingress is a distinct possibly, for example in existing or new
basements and underground structures.
By using the Preventer system, dewatering is often not required.
Features and benefits• Allows the installation of micropiles and tie back
anchors without the need for dewatering
• Safe, controlled and efficient installation• Economical installation, when compared to
dewatering
• Simple operating procedures
Typical applications
• Tension micropiles to resist uplift
• Tie-back anchors for secant piled walls,
diaphragm walls and sheet piled walls
• Compression micropiles
Description
The Preventer system is essentially a valve system that is connected to a compressor via an airline. The
system is operated by opening and closed the rubber insert, by applying air pressure to inflate and deflate the rubber insert. When the rubber insert is in the “closed” (inflated) position, it restricts the ingress of water, whilst pressing tight against the micropile/anchor, allowing the installation and grouting to be completed,
The Preventer is fixed securely to the structure prior to commencing the installation. It is removed once the grout has completely cured, exposing the top of the micropile/anchor ready for the head detail to be constructed.

Step 4: Drill down the complete micropile IBO® T52/26 Drill with sufficient drill bit through the concrete, afterwards change Drill bit (to e.g. clay bit) if required Open and close the preventer for flushing
Advice: Do not bear the drill rig against the preventer!
Preventer-pressure should be chosen that to allow some backflow to disappear; approx. 0,5 bar above pressure of ground water

Step 5: Drilling down the micropile IBO® T52/26 to final depth by using a recoverable extension (CTS® hollow bar with coupling). Loosen the CTS® hollow bar which is inside the preventer and flush with water to clean the preventer. Grease the last section of the CTS® hollow bar which is available for the pile head before installation.

4.) Application – Information: Use fully functioning preventer valves only. The use of inoperable preventer valves is prohibited!
The special rubber sleeve will wear during his use (19 mm wall thickness), if more than half is worn
or if it is damaged or cracked, it must be replaced!
Spare rubber seal is available.

5.) Application - Saftey indication: Do not reach into the preventer!
6.) Setting for drilling: The preventer pressure has to be setted. A light reflux has to be available. During the drilling the preventer has to be opened and closed for flushing.

8.) Setting for drilling: If the Preventer pressure is too high, the rubber sleeve will wear before maturity!

CTS® Preventer System Important Information
9.) Setting during drilling: If the preventer pressure is too low, material will flush out and it comes to soil erosion.
This must be avoided at all costs!
10.) Error: In case of failure, such as if the preventer can not be controlled anymore and material will flow out uncontrolled, the outflow is to stop immediately by mounting a blank flange. Or install the patented rubber stop. The preventer can now be removed and serviced.
