The Commission luxembourgeoise pour la coopération avec l’UNESCO launches a cycle of conferences de-voted to an intensive discussion of

Mankind & Media. Rethinking the Roles in the Age of Information.Speakers from various fields of expertise examine the new opportunities and challenges that society is fac-ing in the highly technologized 21st century. They will cover fundamental topics and reevaluate the roles of the human, mediatic transmission, and information in the contemporary era. The main sections on science, ethics, politics, and arts discuss the massive shift that has taken place in the relation between mankind and media: Are we humans still the producers of infor-mation – or rather products of data processing? Do problematic, highly mediatized contents represent a cause for the division of our society? The talks aim to improve understanding of contemporary devel-opments and their consequences in order to foster improvement – critical thinking is the basis of sustain-able progress.

Die Gesellschaft profitiert von den erheblichen Fortschritten in Wissenschaft und Technik; doch kann der Mensch noch als Urheber der übermittelten In-formationen angesehen werden? Sind wir zu bloßen Konsumenten geworden, zu Produkten der Datenver-arbeitung? Welche Lösungen hält das technologisierte 21. Jahrhundert für den Schutz persönlicher Daten be-reit? Auch potenzielle Risikofaktoren, die mit den neuen Technologien einhergehen, wie etwa autonom fahrende Autos oder Smart Homes, stehen zur Diskussion.

Les normes éthiques comptent-elles en ligne ? Est-ce que les mœurs et valeurs sont respectées dans la so-ciété de l’information ? Ou avons-nous besoin d’une ré-évaluation de ce qu’on considère comme éthiquement correct dans ce domaine à l’heure actuelle ? Cette conférence fera lumière sur des phénomènes tels que le discours de haine, la « cancel culture » ou bien notre dépendance de la fonction « J’aime ».Une discussion autour du concept de la dignité hu-maine dans le monde médiatisé et technologique va approfondir ce sujet : l’accès à l’éducation et à l’infor-mation est un droit humain fondamental - et un des principaux piliers du développement de la personnalité individuelle. L’alphabétisation contemporaine doit donc également inclure des compétences dans la consom-mation de l’information et dans l’estimation de la fia-bilité et la justification du contenu. La collecte et le traitement du savoir forment l’esprit critique et créatif de chaque citoyen mature et autonome.
