Installation GuideAllgon R2R, Repeater to Repeater Link, is a small repeater network inwhich up to thirteen Allgon AR repeaters can be included and beconnected to via a phone line, or several phone lines.

There is a kit available for internal net, and another kit for external net. This guide describes how to install both these types.

Internal netAn internal net is intended for a combi-repeater. It links the repeaterunit in the cabinet and the repeater unit in the cover to an R2R netwhich uses a common phone line (or two lines).

The kit for internal net has the part # EA101 47/1.

External netAn external net is intended for two separate repeaters. It links the tworepeaters, which can be located away from from each other, to an R2R netwhich uses a common phone line (or two lines).

The kit for external net has the part # EA101 47/2.

General R2R informationBefore starting the installation, read the following information about theR2R net and the repeaters included in the net:

• This kit can be used for Allgon repeaters only.

• Maximum 13 repeaters can be interconnected in an R2R net.

• All repeaters in an R2R net have to be powered from the same electriccentral and be grounded from the same ground connection.

• Channel and band selective repeaters can be mixed in the net.

• Maximum cable length between two interconnected repeaters is25 meters, but a standard RS 485 repeater with a proper insulation canbe used for any additional 25 meters up to maximum 1000 meters.

• The repeaters included in a net have to contain a K105/1 DIAdistribution board version R2A or higher.

• To support the R2R net, each repeater included in the net have to runversion R3 or higher of the SA102 02/1 repeater CU software.

• To be able to configure the repeaters in the net, any version of AllgonOMT32 is required.

• The repeaters in an R2R net can also communicate with the AllgonOMS, but no configuration can be performed when using the OMS.

ConnectionWhen the boards are installed in the repeaters, then connect as describedbelow for internal or external net.

Internal Net

This section is applicable to internal kit EA101 47/1.

1. Connect the P34 port in the cabinet to the P34 port in the coverusing the provided cable (’5’ in Figure 1 on page 5). Join the cable tothe previous cables between the cabinet and the cover.

2. Terminate the repeaters, see the Termination section on page 8 andclose the repeater cover.

External Net

This section is applicable to external kit EA101 47/2.

Connect the repeaters as described below.

1. Connect the P34 port to the P3 port on the Connector board usingthe provided cable (’6’ in Figure 1 on page 5).

2. If both the repeater units of a combi-repeater is to be included in theexternal net, then order an extra RIA board (part # K119/1) and anextra interconnection cable (part # VE007 79/2) for the repeater unitin the cover.

When the extra RIA board is installed, then connect the P34 port ofthe cover unit to the P2 port on the Connector board using the extrainterconnection cable (’7’ in Figure 1). Join the cable to the previouscables between the cabinet and the cover.

3. Thread an external link cable (specified under Equipment Requiredon page 4) through a strain relief bushing at the bottom right of therepeater (’8’ in Figure 1).

For repeaters connected to two other repeaters (see Figure 2), threadalso the second link cable (’9’ in Figure 1) into the repeater.

The maximum link cable length is 25 meters with no cable repeater, see the Link Cable Length section below.

4. Connect the link cable (or cables) to the P1 port on the Connectionboard (see Figure 1).

Use straight connection between the repeaters (see Figure 3).

The cable shield can be connected to any of the outermost terminalson the P1 terminal box. Connect one shield to each outermostterminal when connecting two cables (see Figure 3).

5. If the repeaters are grounded to a common ground via the powersupply cord, then skip this step and proceed with the next step.

Otherwise, thread a ground cable (see Figure 2) through a strainrelief bushing. For repeaters connected to two repeaters, thread twoground cables into the repeater.

Connect the ground cable (or cables) to the ground screw (’10’ inFigure 1).

All repeaters in an R2R net must be connected to a common ground.

6. Tighten the strain relief bushings.

7. Terminate the repeaters, see the Termination section on page 8, andclose the repeater front covers.

Link Cable Length

If the link cable between two repeaters in an R2R net is longer than25 meters, then an RS-485 repeater is required (see Figure 2).

Termination Both the outermost RIA boards in an R2R net have to be terminated bymoving the W3 jumpers to the terminating position, i.e. to the right.

The W3 jumper on all repeaters not located outermost in the net, i.e.which are connected to two other repeaters, must be placed in the"Parking" position, i.e. to the left.

Checking the InstallationAfter connecting all the repeaters in the R2R net, ensure that all thestrain relief bushings are tightened.

Make sure that at least one RCU (Remote Control Unit) is installed in arepeater included in the R2R net. As many RCUs as repeaters can be usedin the same R2R net.

A description on how to install an RCU unit is found in the Connectionsection in Chapter 3 of the AR Repeaters & OMT32, User’s Manual.Available RCU units are described in Chapter 13, Optionals in the samemanual.

Starting The RepeatersStart the repeaters as described in Chapter 4, Commissioning in the AR Repeaters & OMT32, User’s Manual.

The RIA board LEDs indicate the following:

• Yellow LED marked POWER indicates, with a steady light, that theboard has a proper voltage supply.

• Green LED marked ACTIVE indicates, with a flashing light, that datais transferred and that the repeater currently is a Control Station(further described below). A steady light indicates that the repeater isnot currently a Control Station, or there is no more repeater in the net.Only one repeater in an R2R net can show a flashing green LED at thesame time.

• Blue LED marked DATA indicates data transmission in the net.

Set the node identity and the Control Station in the following dialog box:

Set the Network ID to a unique number between 1 and 13 for the currentrepeater.

Check the Control Station box if the current repeater can handle thecommunication and thus be a master repeater in the net. Severalrepeaters in the same net can be selected to be Control Stations, whichmeans that the next selected repeater becomes the master if the previousmaster of some reason has ceased to be i operation.

At least one repeater has to be selected as Control Station in an R2R net.It is recommended to select all repeaters in the net as Control Stations, except for fiber optic slave repeaters.

When ready, click the Update button.

Now, the repeater has to reboot to set the configuration in effect. Thefollowing dialog box is shown:

Repeat the described procedure for each of the repeaters included in theR2R net and assign unique network ID numbers between 1 and 13 toeach of the repeaters.

The primary configuration is now finished and remote communication canbe used for the remaining configuration. But, before leaving the repeatersite, check the accessibility to each of the repeaters in the net as describedin the next section.
