Coming soon to the RAA Gallery and Art Center is the MULTI

MEDIA MINI Show. This is a popular all California juried art

exhibit undertaken annually by RAA. It takes many members

to assist our Chair with this show. Read more about it in this

    newsletter.

Please note that the recent change in number of pieces wall

hanging artists may bring for each show cycle is intended to be

a test case. We will observe sales and community reaction to the

exhibits prior to the Operations Board making it permanent.

Read about our coming Point of Sale (POS) system that will

save the sitters time and paperwork, as well as bring our

bookkeeping up to 21st Century standards.

Many art shows opportunitiesjuried and unjuriedare

The new Point of Sale system being installed into thegallery is an easy-to-use touch screen (computer screen)

like you see at any fast food counter when they take your

order. Just by pushing a few buttons, it will computerize the

handling of sales, log in and out all art work in the shows,

maintain membership records and so on. You will see that

most of the paperwork you do now will be done by the

machine! Youll love it! Key people will learn how to use it at

first and then show the rest of us.

"VICKY CHRISTINA BARCELONA"A Woody Allen comedy/Drama/Romance featuring Javier bardem, Penelope cruz,

Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca hallRuntime: 1 hour 36 minutes Rated Pg-13

    TUESDAY FEBRUARY 10TH @ 7:00 PM & THURSDAY FEBRUARY 12TH @ 2:30 PM

Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Christina (Scarlett Johansson) are best friends who decide to spend A summer

in Barcelona. They, like many American students abroad, plan to take in the sights, study the language

and culture 'find themselves' before settling downhave some fun. They meet a tall, handsome Spanish

artist and join him in a romp through Spainbut this is putting it simply there is more to this adventure.

Penelope Cruz has been nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actress and has already won

    international awards.

    "STARTING OUT IN THE EVENING"Starring

    frank

langella in another great performance.Runtime 1 hour 51 minutes Rated Pg-13

    TUESDAY MARCH 10TH @ 7:00 PM & THURSDAY MARCH 12TH @ 2:30 PM

Leonard Schiller (Langella) is a 70 year old writer who has had four books published to great critical

acclaim. He has been working on his fifth for ten years, the completion of which eludes him.Heather

Wolfe (Lauren Ambrose) is a young graduate student working on her thesis, the subject is Leonard - at

least, she hopes to be. She pursues him relentlessly. What transpires between these two is revealing,

soulful, poignant. Langella gives another Oscar worthy performance as the aging writer who strives to

regain the magic of his prime while dealing with the realization of his mortality. DONT MISS THIS

"THE VISITOR"Starring Richard Jenkins 2009 oscar nomination - best actor Runtime 1 hour 43 minutes

    TUESDAY APRIL 14 @ 7:00 PM & THURSDAY APRIL 16 @ 2:30PM

A seemingly natural, outstanding performance by another actor of incredible range. Like Frank Langella,

Richard Jenkins' talent is being given the kudos he deserves in this wonderful independent film by writer/

director Tom McCarthy who has himself garnered nominations and won awards for this. Walter (Jenkins) is

a university professor who goes through the motions of teaching and just living. Void of much emotion and

not particularly interested in anything. He is obligated to go to New York to present a paper he has

co-authored (at least in name only). Walter arrives in New York and the metropolitan busyness of this city

is a fitting analogy of how his life is to be changed. Unlike his staid life in Connecticut he becomes

involved in the lives of some young Africans, immigration laws and an innovative style of music.

THE DUCHESSKiera Knightly, Ralph fiennes, hayley Atwell and charlotte Rampling

    Runtime 1 hour 49 minutes Rated Pg-13

    TUESDAY MAY 12 @ 7:00 PM & THURSDAY 14 @ 2:30 PM

Based on Amanda Foreman's book "GEORGIANA, DUCHESS OF DEVONSHIRE", this film gives us an insight into the arranged marriages of the nobility in the 17th-18th century. This true story of the

beautiful Georgiana who at age 16 marries William the Duke of Devonshire apparently for one reason

only-to bear him a son. Power, wealth, servants, are all hers except happiness. The film takes us into the

grandeur of her homes, costumes and incredible dysfunctional lifestyle. The film depicts her struggle to

find happiness while being a dutiful wife. It shows how she influenced the politics of the day (quite

extraordinary for a woman in her position and of her time). Allegedly, she is the ancestor of Diana,

Princess of Wales whose life was not too dissimilar.

everybody please bring in aluminum can pull

tabs to the RAA Art Center & Gallery to help

support the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald

House and their efforts to collect money for

the children and their families who need it

    the most.

Every pull tab counts and they do so much

good for the children with cancer. There is

a glass container near the coffee pot in the

kitchen of the gallery. Betty picks them upabout once a week. When she collects about

30 or 40 pounds, she takes them to Ronald

McDonalds house. Once a year they have

a big take-in at the University of Redlands.

Loma Linda then sends them to a recycling

company to be weighed. Money is then sent

back to Loma Linda for the wonderful job

accomplished by the doctors there. Betty

Hoadley thanks everyone for their continued

    support.

PrOGram FOLLOW-uPCindy Lantier and Sandy Davies picked up their gicles from Fernando

Chavez at Sol Digital Studio in Corona a few weeks ago. To refresh your

memory, Cindy was one of the lucky drawing winners of the FREE gicle

print of her art at RAAs November program. Sandy was a tag-along, entic

by the quality of the work presented at the program.

On their first trip to Corona, Cindy brought a mixed media collage, 11" x

14", and Sandy brought a watercolor painting, 17" x 17". Cindy ordered jus

her free gicle but Sandy ordered a full size gicle and two 8" x 10"s. The

initial computer scan of her painting was $100 and the two prints about

    $50 totaling $150.

They were both pleased with the process of showing Fernando what they

wanted seeing the proofs and asking for contrast/ color adjustments

then picking up the finished product.

While not an exact duplicate of the originals, you had to have the original

and gicle side-by-side to see the difference. All these gicles were on

heavyweight watercolor paper and looked and felt real good. Sandy and

Cindy were very satisfied and recommend Fernandos studio to anyone wh

wants quality reproductions of their art.

    Tech TIPS nFrom sndy Dvie

So I told you about the non-permanent-stick 3M tape I used it

yesterday as a resist in my watercolor painting. I had a small area tomask and I didnt want to use a frisket. I wet the paper where I wanted the resist,

let the paper dry 4-5 minutes (left it just a teensy damp) and applied the cut out

shape made from the tape onto the damp paper. I pressed the edges of the shape

onto the paper and then painted the area right over the tape. When the paint was

dry, I pulled off the tape. Clean, crisp edges to the shape, no damage to the paper.

:) Be sure and test it on a scrap of your paper.
