•S

ongs: Tagore was a prolific composer with 2,230 songs to his credit. His

songs are known as rabindrasangit ("Tagore Song").

In 1971, Amar Shonar Bangla became the national anthem of

Bangladesh. It was written—ironically—to protest the 1905 Partition of

Bengal along communal lines: lopping Muslim-majority East Bengal

from Hindu-dominated West Bengal was to avert a regional bloodbath.

•T

he national anthem of India Jana Gana Mana was also composed by

Tagore.

P

aintings: At sixty, Tagore took up drawing and painting;

successful exhibitions of his many works—which made a

debut appearance in Paris upon encouragement by artists

he met in the south of France—were held throughout

Europe. He was likely red-green color blind, resulting in

works that exhibited strange colour schemes and off-beat

aesthetics.

TAGORE’S WRITINGS AGAINST SOCIAL PROBLEMS

A

remarkable aspect of Rabindranath Tagore’s life is the way his persona

had changed radically from the restricted identity of an oriental

romantic-mystic to the wide-ranging identity of a concerned citizen of

the world. A poet, who had earlier attempted to blend spiritual and

romantic notions in his quest of grasping the mystery surrounding

individual human soul and the divine, increasingly began to give voice

to the minds of the colonized and oppressed people and expressed his

passionate desire to be identified as one of them.

I

n Political & educational terms , Rabindranath

wrote some highly encouraging verse. “Gora” is

related to political reviews.

During his being a Landlord, He felt very closely

the sufferings & Sorrows of the farmers & poor

people. He gave various writings to newspapers

and also in his writings for changing their situation.

Page 15: Rabrindanath tagore

F

rom a very ancient period in Bengali society, Dowry

system is very common. Periodically the dowry system

is becoming the main cause of Women injustice.

Rabindranath Tagore realized the importance of this

disgusting fact and he raised his voice through his

writings. Such as “Dena-Pawna”; “Hoimonti”; “Bow-

Thakurain ar golpo” etc are remarkable.

abindranath Tagore was a great genius. His

ways of expressing the beauty of Bangla was

example for Bangla Literature. We are proud
