BETWEEN CITY AND ARCHITECTURES.M.N. LOOKING FOR A SQUARE
XI international concept competition in architecture
location: Florence
Santa Maria Novella is one of the biggest square in Florence,
dominated by the church’s apse and the train station.
It’sIt’s considered a mastepiece of italian rationalism and is
designed by Giovanni Michelucci during the 30’s.
The competition’s subject consists in a urbanistic and
functionalfunctional replanning of the area aimed to enhance and
riconnote the square. This design considers the storic and
artistic value of the pre-existences and is based on “zero
volume” architecture. The new square is designed as a
sandstone slab dug by green tanks on the right side and
a box-trees labyrinth( in reference to italian graden) on the
left side.
CdC SOCIAL HOUSESaccademic work
location: città di castello, perugia, italy
TheThe site is located in a suburban area, near the
city’s wall. This work is composed by a residential
area and a common services area. The flats are
positioned in four blocks which rest on a massive
basement. This base hosts some facilities such as
shops, gym, laundry, cafeteria and nursery. The
whole structure consists in the repetition of a 7X7
modulemodule which, composed in several ways, allows
the creation of five different flat’s size.
Each of these blocks has common spaces which,
working as a kind of telescope, give new sugges-
tive views of the city and the valley.
