Pickup Discount$50 credit for buyers taking their bulls home on sale day.

Delivery: We will offer delivery within 200 km of home, after that at cost. Delivery will commence April 1, 2015 unless prior arrangements have been made with the seller.

Wintering: Anyone not wanting to take their bulls after the sale can make ar-rangements with the breeder to keep the bulls at a cost of $4.00 per day after April 1, 2015. ALL BULLS RETURNING TO THE BREEDER MUST BE INSURED. The bulls will be housed at the buyer’s risk. The breeders will not be responsible for any type of injury while the bulls are in their care.

Semen Test: All bulls will be semen tested before sale day.

WelcomeOn behalf of RACK Red Angus we would like to invite you to attend the RACK Red Angus and MCG Simmentals bull sale on March 7th at 1:00 pm at Foothills Auctioneers Inc., Stavely, Alberta. This will be the second year selling with MCG Simmentals, Murray, Cheryl and Grady Brown of Stavely. As you will see from Mur-ray and Cheryl’s bull offering they always focus on producing top quality Simmental bulls that will work in anyone’s herd. They are great people with a great program.

We would also like to congratulate Rob and Sharon Bergevin on their purchase of the Stavely Auction Market and wish them continued success in the future. If you’re thinking of marketing livestock, please give Rob a call.

This year’s bulls have been fed at home again. Through culling we feel that we have come up with a set of Red Angus Bulls that are functionally sound and have not been pushed, but have been grown to focus on great feet, structure, hair coat, capacity without sacrificing longevity. All the bulls have been fed together on our Meadow Creek bull ration which is a wheat screening pellet with corn and no barley added. The pen average daily gain is 3.55 lbs. All the bulls have received extra mineral and free choice oat green feed.

New for this year we are providing ultrasound data. We believe this data will help aide our clients to pick a herd sire based on information to improve their herd. Sires should be chosen based on the whole picture not just on 1 or 2 traits.

We would encourage anyone interested in our sale offering to please feel free to call or to come to the ranch and view the bulls. Coffee is always on!

All RACK Red Angus bulls purchased in the sale can return home free of charge until March 31st. All bulls returning to the ranch must be insured.

Understanding UltrasoundUltrasound data was scanned by Jamie Jensen Whitney, a certified ultrasound technician, meet-ing standards set by the Ultrasound Guidelines Council. The accuracy of ultrasound is high, so bulls selected based on ultrasound data will result in positive genetic carcass changes in the progeny. The heritability of carcass traits is moderate to high which is higher than the heritability of birth, weaning, and yearling weights.

MarblingMarbling is the best indicator we have to tell us what our beef will taste like. Marbling is the percentage of fat within the muscles. The higher the marbling the more flavourful and tender the meat will be.

Back Fat (mm)Fat depth decreases the lean meat yield. Fat bulls have less lean meat/muscle than lean bulls. The back fat measurement also tells us an animal’s fleshing ability. Bulls with very little fat may sire calves that finish too slowly in the feedlot. Bulls that are carry excessive fat may suffer reduced fertility. The amount of fat that a heifer is carrying is related to the age they will reach puberty, milk production, and rebreed in a short calving interval.

Ribeye Area (inches squared)The ribeye is the largest muscle in the body, therefor its size is an indicator in the amount of muscle the animal is carrying.

ConclusionLike all traits, moderation is key. Producers need to evaluate their females and decide the type of progeny they want to produce. Sires should be chosen based on the whole picture not just on 1 or 2 traits.

BUCC 324Y was a bull calf that Brent Carey found for us in 2012 at Six Mile. When I asked Brent about the bull his response was that he is a wide topped, thick boned power house that he thought would do us a lot of good. 324Y has done just that with the exception he is throwing much lighter BW averaging in the mid 80s. Take a look at his pedigree. It is rock solid all the way through with many great sires being represented.

We have changed our feed program this year and we think it has made a world of difference in the bulls. We are using the same “Meadow Creek” ration that RACK uses in their feed program. The bulls are fed with longevity in mind and are not over pushed. The ration is a corn based pellet, and to complete it, the bulls are given free choice hay. You can buy with confidence that these bulls are sound and ready to go to work for you. The bulls are hand fed and are extremely quiet.

We purchased WFL 45Z from Westway Farms in their 2013 sale for $9,300. This is the first crop of calves we have off of this bull, and we couldn’t be happier with them. The calves come out with moderate birth weights and then just have grown. He is a very consistent sire.

These two solid black bulls are twins that were raised together. You really have to give this cow credit. She was a 2nd calver and this is the 2nd set of twins she has had and she is bred back again for the 2015 calving season. We hope for a single calf this year.
