Experience Summary: Responsible for supporting the general operation of radiation safety and health physics in a
two medical treatment facilities and a regional Public Health Command that covered the European region including
NATO countries. Direct, plan, and carry out radiation area monitoring and perform contamination surveys in hot
labs and patient treatment areas. Perform lead shielding evaluations and provide recommendations. Served as lead
member of the Army RAMT (Radiological Medical Advisory Team) and maintain its equipment at each location.
Operate radiation survey meters and commercial gamma and liquid scintillation counting systems. Responsible for
support of NRC License, Radioactive Materials Permit Program, Radiation Survey Meter Calibration program.
Survey medical, dental and veterinary x-ray equipment to ensure federal compliance and safe operation.
Consolidate radiation safety data in all areas and report findings to Radiation Safety Committee. Have served as
primary manager for the operation of the Thermoluminescent Dosimetry Distributions and Database management
program. Ship radioactive material in compliance with Code of Federal regulation to include sealed source, TC-99
generators and radioactive waste. Supervised Soldiers, civilians and contractors, managed budget and logistical
requirements, tracked DMHRSi, ordered supplies, managed hand receipts, written and updated Standard Operating
Procedures (SOP’s), tracked training, tracked certification and licensure requirements, managed Defense Travel
System for staff, Joint Commission Survey preparation, technical advisor to Health System Administrator and
Department Head.
Professional Experience: From 2005 to 2015
Senior Enlisted Leader at three Medical Centers serving as Army E8 senior Non-Commission Officer (NCOIC) of
the Public Health/Preventive Medicine (PH/PM) encompassing Environmental Health, Clinical Preventive
Medicine, Radiation Protection/Health Physics, Safety, Occupational Health, Public Health Nursing and Industrial
Hygiene. Department administrator, manager and leader for 80-90 military and civilian personnel at each Medical
Center. Assisted the Health System Specialist during the Base Realignment and Closure of Walter Reed Army
Medical Center, managed the strategic transition and Joint Manning Document resulting in the placement of
departing personnel and equipment to two new medical facilities while continuing to providing superb customer
service to patients, customers and continuous support to Garrison operations to include the Wounded Warrior
Battalion (WTB).
101 Airborne Division, 1999-2005: PM Detachment NCOIC: Additional experience includes field combat
operations during OIF 1, 2003/4 ensuring safe PM climate during the occupation of 101st Airborne Division in
support of combat operations in Iraq. Investigations and monitoring includes air, water, soil, ice, disease vectors,

safe building occupation, unapproved source food investigations, communicable disease, and inspections of area
rest and recuperation (R&R) areas. In garrison trained over 3000 soldiers on field sanitation for deployments and
conducted country threat briefs for deploying Brigade Combat Teams.
Health Physics Specialist: 1992-1999, Fort Ord CA, Ft Leonard Wood MO, Public Health Command, Landstuhl,
Germany. Survey medical, dental and veterinary x-ray equipment to ensure safe operation; monitor use and control
of licensed radioactive materials; Interpret dosimetry and run the dosimetry program; gather and store radioactive
waste until deemed safe; use Geiger-Mueller and other gas filled detectors, liquid scintillation and multi-channel
analyzers to conduct surveys; inspect patient records to ensure correct dose, site and patient to comply with NRC
license requirements; prepare reports and brief senior level staff at the radiation control committee meetings;
conduct lead shielding surveys; perform periodic radioactive sealed source inventories. Member of three person
team that completed the decommissioning of the NRC license during the BRAC closure of Fort Ord, Ca.
Industrial Hygiene Technician 1986-1989, Heidelberg Germany: Identified hazards in the workplace; Collected
samples of potentially toxic materials for analysis; Inspected and evaluated workplace environments, equipment,
and practices for compliance with corporate and government health and safety standards and regulations; Design
and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from potentially hazardous work
conditions ; Investigate accidents and incidents to identify their causes and to determine how they might be
prevented in the future; examine lighting, equipment, ventilation, and other conditions and materials in the
workplace that could affect employee health, safety, comfort, and performance. Work closely with occupational
health and safety manager to collect and analyze data in the workplace.
