Enigma: Radar target and ECM Simulator

Enigma is a Hardware In the Loop (HWIL), radar target andElectronic Counter Measure (ECM) simulator. The simulatoris based on high resolution Digital Radio Frequency Memory(DRFM) technology developed at CSIR Deence, Peace, Saety andSecurity (DPSS).

UsageEnigma can be utilised or: Evaluation o operational radar robustness against jamming Acceptance testing o new radar Radar technology development (e.g. testing tracking

flters and Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM)unctionality)

Research and development o advanced ECM and ECCM Support or training and doctrine development

FeaturesEnigma is designed to: Generate radar engagement scenarios including target (radar

skin echo) and advanced counter measures. Be transportable and to easily interace with the radar under

user-riendly interace Operate to world class specifcations in a diverse set o

simulation scenarios

OperationData obtained rom evaluations provide useul inormation onthe eectiveness o the EW capabilities o operational radar andradar under development. These results prompt the more eectiveutilisation o current capabilities and promote the development onew

Our track recordSince 1939 when radar technology was transerred to SouthArica rom Great Britain, we have been playing a leading rolein the development and utilisation o radar technology and itsapplications.

We were instrumental in the development o Radio Frequency (RF)Electronic Warare (EW) technology in South Arica rom the early1970s and in enabling the local EW industry.

In the post-1994 Democratic South Arica, we have beenacknowledged by the South Arican Department o Deenceas Electronic Deence Research and Evaluation Institute andcontracted to support them to be smart buyers, smart users andensuring strategic independence in Radar and Electronic Warare.

Our Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) simulators, Digital RadioFrequency Memory (DRFM) kernels and radar signal processors

are recognised as world class and utilised by several clientsinternationally.

The teaming o our Radar and Electronic Warare specialistsenables a deep understanding o systems interactions and clientrequirements.
