DESCRIPTIONRadcon Formula #7 is a biochemically modified silicatesolution that provides long-term waterproofing and durabilitybenefits to concrete. It penetrates into concrete and reacts withfree calcium and water to form a calcium silicate gel complex incracks, pores and capillaries. This gel creates a sub-surfacebarrier against the ingress of water and contaminants such aschloride ions.

Radcon Formula #7 will seal existing leaking cracks to2.00mm. In the matrix the product remains reactive when incontact with water to provide autogenous healing properties tofuture hairline cracks.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS• Rooftops & Podium Decks• Car-parks• Road & Rail Bridge Decks• Wharf Decks & Marine Structures• Airport Runways, Taxiways, Aprons• Water Retaining Structures

SPECIALTY APPLICATIONSTiled areas (not terracotta or glass-glazed)Tiled shower recessesFacadesPre-cast elements & panels

KEY BENEFITSLong-term performance - No re-application or futuremaintenance required.

100% trafficable after the first watering. Minimal risk ofdamage during construction or thereafter.

Fault finding - If stubborn cracks are present - easy to find andfix. No lifting of membranes required.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS• Permanently seals cracks up to 2.00mm.• Reseals future hairline cracking.• Reduction of chloride diffusion coefficient by 89% to 3.5 (10-12 m2/s).• Water permeability reduced by 70%/to 5.0 (10-12 m/s) at

10Kg/cm2.• Increases surface hardness from 6 to 8 on Moh’s scale• Reduces scaling in freeze-thaw environments by 89% at 50

cycles.• Allows 84.1% moisture vapour permeability.• Suitable for tanking applications (positive hydrostatic

pressure) - tested to 400 metres.• Non Toxic - Certified suitability for potable water.

APPLICATIONBasic Requirements• Radcon Formula #7 must be applied to a clean, dry, dust-

free concrete surface, at least 28 days old.• All curing compounds must have degraded or be removed

prior to application.• Any materials that retard penetration should be removed.• Where segregation or voids are apparent, chip out, treat with

Radcon Formula #7, then make good with cementitiousmaterials.

• Good concrete practice must be followed such as adequatecuring, compaction and vibration.

• Old or carbonated concrete requires a supplementarytreatment to reinstate free calcium.

• Do not apply where ambient temperatures are below +50C orabove +400C.

Application RatesNormal: 1 litre to 5 square metres on average. Can varydepending on substrate sorptivity.

For cracked areas: an additional 1 litre per 3 lineal metres isrecommended.

Method1. Locate all cracks and flood with solution first ensuring they

are filled with product.2. Apply the solution to the remaining area at a rate of

between 4-6 square metres per litre.3. When surface becomes touch dry - (usually 2-6 hours

depending on wind conditions and ambient temperature)flood spray the treated areas with water. If product still wetat 6 hours, begin first watering.

4. On Day 2 - 24 hours later water again.5. On Day 3 - 24 hours later water again.6. After the third watering, block drains and pond area for a

minimum of 12 hours to verify a waterproof seal has beenachieved.

PRECAUTIONSProtect glass, aluminium, wood and painted finishes fromoverspray.

LIMITATIONSRadcon Formula #7 is not suitable for sealing working/volatile cracks as a result of structural defects or caused bymechanical damage. (See LARGE OR STUBBORN CRACKS)

The product is not suitable for sealing where segregation andvoids are likely such as construction joints, pour joints. Norsuitable around penetrations where there is a non-masonry/cementitious interface. (See ANCILLARY DETAILINGRECOMMENDATIONS)

Radcon Formula #7 is not suitable for negative hydrostaticpressure applications such as the inside face of an basement/retaining wall.

CONCRETEMix DesignRadcon #7 will meet or exceed its stated performance whenapplied to slag blend concrete and ordinary Portland cementType GP concrete. Type C fly-ash replacement up to 30% ofcement replacement. Type F fly-ash is not suitable for use withRadcon #7.Fall LinesPour structural slabs to fall lines where possible. No protectivescreed is required.

CURING COMPOUNDSWater curing is preferred. Aqueous Acrylics that degrade within28 days are also suitable. Other materials such as chloro-rubberor wax emulsions require removal by grit blasting or grinding toallow the penetration of the product.

DETAILING REQUIREMENTSFor more extensive information, please refer to the Radcon #7specification or design detailing sheets.

Construction/Pour JointsThe joint should be formed by a vertical stop board duringconstruction. Use bentonite waterstops in construction joints. The alternative is the application of a reinforced liquid appliedmembrane stripseal extending 100mm either side over the topof construction joints where covered, or grind and fill with non-shrink grout or polymer modified grout, or elastomeric jointsealing compound if there is risk the joint will move.

Upturns/HobbsFirst preference is having upturns/hobs poured in-situ orbentonite waterstop places in joint. Next alternative is tostripseal the cold joint between upturn and slab with reinforcedliquid applied membrane extending 100mm either side.

PenetrationsUse bentonite waterstops or reinforced liquid applied membraneextending 100mm around penetrations, drains, fulgo inlets etc.

Expansion JointsResponsibility of others

Control JointsCreate a joint extending ¼ the depth of the slab, prior to dryingshrinkage of the concrete. Use an elastomeric joint sealingcompound to seal the joint.

LARGE OR STUBBORN CRACKSCreate a small dam and flood crack with product, repeating theapplication process. A liquid, fine grind cement slurry can be usedin large, stable cracks. 5:1 ratio of water:cement. ConsultRadcrete for the latest techniques and where cracks are volatile.

MAINTENANCENone required.

Site Details

Location: St Leonards NSW 2065Client: State Super BoardEngineer: Ray Condon Consulting EngineerApplicator: Kratrim Pty. Ltd.Application: Car park deck exposedSize: 2,000 square metresDescription: 300 lineal metres of cracks averaging 1.2mm treated in 1988

Part of Radcon #7 ABSAC Appraisal for Government projects in Australia. Reportavailable upon request.

Site Notes: This site is a four level car park with normally reinforced concrete decks. It was Radcon#7’ first major car park sealing job undertaken with severe leakage evident. A total of 300lineal metres of leaking cracks ranging from 0.5mm - 2.5mm in width were evident prior totreatment.

Radcon #7 was treated to the entire top level which is completely exposed. The treatmentwas a complete success, however some major cracks required two or three treatments togain a 100% seal. These re-treated cracks obviously contained large voids whichrequired additional product to bridge the cracks entirely.

It should be noted that the site had been leaking for a period of approximately 9 monthsprior to the Radcon #7 application. This is the reason for the extensive calcium leaching(staining) on the underside of the slab.

Capillary Waterproofing System

MANUFACTURERRadcrete Developments Pty LtdLevel 3, 45a Bay StreetDouble Bay NSW 2028SYDNEY AUSTRALIAe-mail: [email protected]: www.radcrete.com.auPh: +61-2-9362 3511 Fax: +61-2-9362 3244ACN: 069 156 234

DESCRIPTIONRadmyxTM Capillary Waterproofing System is a completesystem to waterproof below grade applications such asbasements and water holding structures.

Through the process of osmosis the active chemicals inRadmyxTM react with the hydration products of cement tocreate a continuous barrier of insoluble crystals deep withinthe capillary structure of the concrete. These crystals blockthe passage of water whilst permitting the transmission of airand water vapour, enabling the structure to breathe.

RadmyxTM is equally effective against positive or negativewater pressure and can be used as an admixture or surfaceapplied as a slurry on the internal or external surface.

Full waterproofing is normally achieved 5 – 7 days afterapplication. After the crystallisation process has successfullywaterproofed the structure the active chemicals in RadmyxTM

remain dormant in the concrete. Any later contact with waterwill reactivate the sealing process.

AdmixtureRadmyxTM AdmixtureIs a cementitious powder added to dry mix at the batchplant at a rate of 1.5% of binder ie Cement +Fly Ash.

Surface AppliedRadmyxTM SlurrySupplied as a powder and mixed with water, RadmyxTM

Slurry is applied directly to positive or negative side ofconcrete, blockwork or cement renders in areas wheregeneral waterproofing is required

RadmyxTM MortarMixed to a mortar consistency with water, RadmyxTM

Mortar is used for crack & honeycomb repair as well as ascreed, render and fillet material.

RadmyxTM HardenerUsed in place of water with RadmyxTM Slurry to obtainultra rapid set properties essential for leak plugging

AdmixtureRadmyxTM AdmixtureAddition: 1.5% of the binder content by weight. ie. Cement+Flyash• RadmyxTM Admixture should be distributed evenly

through the dry mix prior to adding water.

Surface AppliedRadmyxTM SlurryMixing: 1 water : 2.25 - 2.5 powder by volume.Rate: 0.8 kg per m2 per coat.Technique:

1. Dampen surface prior to application.2. Applied by brush or spray onto the dampened

substrate.3. Apply 2 coats at right angles, the 2nd coat whilst the

first is firm, but 'green' - usually 3-4 hours after firstcoat (dependant on temperature).

4. If 2nd coat is done the following day – dampen withwater before applying the second coat.

RadmyxTM MortarMixing: Mix sufficient water to achieve a mortar consistencyRate: Use as requires.Technique:

1. Dampen Surface prior to application.2. Laminate in layers no more than 30mm thick.

General Instructions (Surface Application)• Add water to RadmyxTM NOT RadmyxTM to water.• Only mix sufficient RadmyxTM that can be used in 20

minutes.• Protect RadmyxTM from sun & ponding water for 4 days.• RadmyxTM should be sprayed with a fine mist of water 3-

4 times a day for 4 days to assist curing & penetration.• Clean tools and equipment immediately after use. Use of

plastic or rubber containers is recommended.• RadmyxTM waterproofing is not suitable for subsequent

decoration unless first protected by sand/cement render.

Surface Preparation (Surface Application)• Surfaces must be free from dust, oil, grease, paint,

residual curing compound, form release oil or anyprevious surface treatment that will impair adhesion of theRadmyxTM .

• Remove any laitance and provide a slightly rough, openpored surface sufficient to act as a mechanical key. This is essential for adequate adhesion of theRadmyxTM.

Cold Joints (New)

The joint should be formed by a vertical stop board duringconstruction. Use a bentonite waterstops such as VolclayRX and RadmyxTM Slurry as a dry shake on the joint faceprior to pouring the subsequent concrete.

Cold Joints (Existing)

Where the joint leaks repair similar to crack or void/honeycomb.

Penetrations (New)

Use bentonite waterstops as a wrap around the penetrationduring construction.

Movement Joints

Responsibility of others.

Cracks

Identify static cracks over 0.4 mm that must be chased outand repaired.

1. Chase out to a depth of minimum 30 - 40mm

2. Dampen with water

3. Prime with RadmyxTM Slurry

4. Laminate maximum 30mm layers with RadmyxTM

Mortar until the crack is filled

Voids & Honeycombing

1. Hack out until solid concrete is found

2. Dampen with water

3. Prime the area with RadmyxTM Slurry

4. Laminate RadmyxTM Mortar in 30mm (maximum)layers until the void is filled

Plugging Leaks

Leaks and holes drilled to relieve water pressure are sealedpermanently using a plugging compound of RadmyxTM

Slurry mixed with RadmyxTM Hardener

To plug leaks under pressure:

1. Chase out the area of the leak until water flow is freeand insert a length of plastic hose.

2. Seal the plastic hose with plugging compound as above.

3. Clean the cavity and apply a coat of RadmyxTM Slurryand when tacky, fill the cavity with a RadmyxTM Mortarand allow to cure.

4. When surrounding waterproofing is complete, withdrawthe hose and plug the hole with plugging compoundusing a gloved thumb to hold it in place until set(approximately 1 minute).

5. Fill the remainder of the hole with RadmyxTM MortarWhen the mortar has set, complete the waterproofing, lapping slurry coats onto the concrete surrounding thehole.

Holes under low pressure can be similarly sealed, but pipeinsertion and removal is omitted.
