Look good, feel great, be confident

It’s hard to believe that summer is over for another year and we’re already well into Autumn. As I write, the rain is pouring down outside and it’s such a wonderful change to the heat we’ve been having here in Perth – the smell on the dry earth is rejuvenating!

This issue of ‘Radiance’ is a little later than usual as we have been settling in to our brand new clinic just down the road at 2/10 Station Street in Cottesloe.

Things were getting a bit too cosy in our old premises. Now we can spread out and accommodate you and our other wonderful patients much more comfortably. It also means we’ll have more appointment times available to cater for your busy lifestyle plus

a broader suite of products and services on offer.

There’s nothing like a fresh start in a fresh new year and when you visit us next you’ll also notice we’ve launched a new specialist clinic. ‘Innovative Skin and Acne Solutions’ by Marian Rubock will focus purely on treating patients with debilitating skin problems using our own patented, world leading technology.

I hope you enjoy this edition of ‘Radiance’. As usual it’s full of helpful information and I urge you to particularly read our feature article on how to cleanse your lymphatic system in preparation for winter. I promise you’ll feel more energetic and ‘radiant’ in no time.

To book an appointment at our new clinic located at 2/10 Station Street in Cottesloe, please phone us on 08 9383 4225. We look forward to showing you around.

Have you been trying to lose weight and find that nothing you do is working? Or do you lose a kilo or two only to find that your weight then comes to a standstill?

Learn how to lose weight more effectively by checking and monitoring your skin every day and ensuring your body is in optimum health and all your efforts not going to waste.

You see, when your lymphatic system is impaired it can affect enzyme activity. Enzymes are the first of “the workers” in your body and the catalysts that allow minerals and vitamins to undertake their metabolic functions. Shortage or absence of enzyme activity may greatly reduce the body’s and skin’s ability to function.

So let’s get started to check to see if your enzymes are in check.SELF TEST: Press down on the skin just above your ankle bone. Press firmly for 30 seconds then release quickly. Count how long it takes for the colour and circulation to return. If you have counted over 3 seconds your lymphatic system is significantly impaired. If this is the case let’s look at other indicators, circle your answers with a pen to keep track.

• Do you suffer from hot feet or legs at night after you have gone to bed? Yes/No

• Do your legs feel heavy and tired? Yes/No

• Do you find that your legs bruise easily or are painful when bumped? Yes/No

• Does the skin on your legs tingle, a little like pins and needles? Yes/No

• Do you suffer from constipation? Yes/No

• Does you weight fluctuate? Yes/No

• Do you feel puffy and bloated? Yes/No

• Do you pass water regularly? Yes/No

• Do you takes diuretics? Yes/No

• Do you suffer from varicose veins or hemorrhoids?

Yes/No

• Do you have cellulite? Yes/No

If you said ‘yes’ to four or more of the questions above then the likelihood is that you have an impaired lymphatic system and this could be affecting both your health and your efforts to lose weight.

Okay, so what can you do to change this?

• You MUST walk everyday for at least 20 minutes. Your lymphatic vessels work in harmony with your circulatory system and 70% of your lymphatics system sits in or just under your skin. When you get the muscles pumping during exercise you shift excess fluid and create a healthy balance between the fluid in and out of your circulatory system.

• Reduce your salt intake unless you have adrenal fatigue.

• Increase your water intake and ensure that it is filtered water to support a healthy digestion.

• Start daily dry skin brushing (see diagram below).

• Use support stockings when flying.

• Elevate your legs for 20 minutes at the end of each work day.

• Take on water aerobics and/or deep water walking.

• Add vitamin C, Zinc and EPA/DHA to your daily nutritional health routine.

• Take a practitioner pro-biotic three times daily.

• Avoid or reduce alcohol as it reduces the effectiveness of your nutrient absorption and competes in the liver for fat loss. When the liver has to choose between burning fat and a toxin, it will choose removal of the toxin as it’s priority.

GET YOUR BODY BUZZING WITH JUSTIN FROM BUMBLEBEE!By Justin Caitlin, Landscaper As a naturopath and skin expert, Marian Rubock would be the first to tell you that the fruit, vegetables and herbs that are incorporated in our diet are one of our only sources of nutrients.Lack of essential vitamins and minerals are detrimental to optimum health so when you buy your fruit and veggies are you always getting the nutrients you need from the food produce you consume? Unfortunately a lot of the time the answer is ‘no’ and there are many reasons for this. Here’s just a few:Our Soil Quality – Modern farming methods have stripped nutrients from the soil and it’s a fact that to produce high quality produce you must increase

soil health. Healthy soil = happy, healthy plants! Food Freshness – Vitamins, minerals, nutrients and enzymes only remain in our fruit and vegetables for a short period of time once it is picked, so the sooner we consume it, the greater the benefit to us.Chemicals – It has been medically proven that pesticides, herbicides and fungicides are extremely dangerous to our health, however you might not have been told that they also kill anything that lives in the soil or on our food while it’s growing. Fruits and vegetables produce phytonutrients which are their own natural defence against bugs. These phytonutrients such as resveratrol, flavonoids and carotenoids help prevent against disease and get our bodies working properly. So with the overuse of chemicals to kill bugs, plants no longer have the need to produce these important phytonutrients. Plus when we eat them we also miss these benefits which is the difference between fruit and veg ‘à la supermarket’ and organically grown fruit and veg.

The good news is that over the past few years I have seen more and more people growing their own food in their own backyard and it’s continuing to grow! As a gardener and owner of Bumblebee Landscaping WA I can tell you first hand that there is nothing more satisfying than seeing, tasting and feeling the effects of fruit, vegetables and herbs that have been grown organically in your own back yard. Its so easy to just go out to your back patio and pick your greens, veggies and serve with the highest amount of vitamins, minerals and micronutrients still remaining. If you have ever made a ‘green smoothie’ with greens picked straight from your garden you’ll know what I mean. You can feel the ‘goodness’ running through your body! If you would like to turn a small area of your patio into a veggie patch we can help you get the basic right so that you can enjoy vegetables and fruits all year round! Its easy with the right know how. FAST, HEALTHY AND EFFECTIVE

“I have used Marian Rubock’s acne treatment for the last three months and the results started showing right after the first month!

She gives you good knowledge on how to effectively treat acne internally and externally in a short period of time. Having previously been under harsh Roaccutane treatment, my acne came back but Marian’s acne treatment saved my skin with only 1/3 of the time taken. Her program is fast, healthy and effective.“Amin Azmi, Logistic Supervisor, IKEA Perth

ASK MARIAN“I have unsightly age spots on the backs of my hands. How would you recommend I reduce them?” Marlene

Age spots can be quite difficult to remove. I find one of the best (and quickest) ways to do it is to have them dry-freezed using liquid nitrogen. Proponents of IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy also recommend the treatment to reduce the appearance of age spots and other sun damage on the skin surface. If you pursue this treatment, just ensure that the therapist has plenty of experience to avoid the risk of burns. If you’d prefer to use a more natural approach, go for products that are rich in vitamins A, C and E and those with other skin-repairing elements like copper and immune support such as mandelic acid or aloe vera. Make sure you protect your hands with sunscreen daily and reapply as required.

BAKED SWEET POTATO FRIESDo you love french fries? They are kinda addictive aren’t they – you tell yourself that you are only going to have one, and then before you know it, the plate is half empty!

Unfortunately, if you’re reaching for the typical french fries, deep fried in vegetable shortening, your health, skin and waistline are going to pay a VERY costly price to satisfy that craving. In fact, a modest 200g serving (equivalent to 1 potato) contains: 638 calories, 76g of high glycemic carbs and 34g of fat

Why not try these ‘Baked Sweet Potato Fries’ as a healthy alternative...

Ingredients:3 large sweet potatoes1 tbsp of walnut or coconut oil1/2 tsp of sea salt1/2–1 tsp of cinnamon1/4 tsp paprika

Directions:1. Preheat the oven to 220ºC.

2. In a mixing bowl, toss all ingredients (except the cinnamon) until the potato wedges are evenly coated with oil and spices.

3. Place on a baking sheet, separated evenly, and then sprinkle cinnamon on top as desired. Bake for 30 minutes or until done.

Nutrition facts per 200 grams:274 calories39g of lower glycemic carbs9g of fat…

Now that’s a better option don’t you think!
