Implement NRC Orders regarding enhanced security (called preventive measures) for our 6 irradiator facilities

Inform management and irradiator facilities of the NRC OrdersDevelop a committee to review the Order, generate an implementation planImplement plan before due date of 180 days after final rules are promulgated

Improvements to a Critical Process

Work with the purchasing department to develop a new procedure for users to purchase radioactive materials that will be beneficial to Users, Purchasing, and us

Meet with Purchasing to identify issues and brainstorm on possible procedural modificationsCarefully review Purchasing’s draft proposal for a new policyImplement policy changes in our office to supplement the new process

Provide professional growth opportunities which will benefit the Radiation Safety Office staff, the Office itself, and UNC

Encourage staff to attend NCHPS meetings, Duke seminars, and other professional meetings as budget allowsEncourage staff presentations at EHS In-service, Duke Seminars, NCHPS meetingsConduct internal in-services on new medical procedures, new regulatory requirements, new technologies

Financial Accountability and Performance

Improve personnel dosimetry program to cut down on cost, improve efficiency, and maintain regulatory compliance

Get RSC approval on new dosimetry policy regarding non-returned dosimeters from persons who aren’t required to be monitoredDelete dosimeter series that meet the termination criteriaEncourage the termination of unnecessary dosimetersModify the external monitoring policy for the hospital to reduce conservatism in EDE measurements which will reduce the number of investigations done quarterly and reduce the number of waist badges

Bring a Manager to Work Day

Come along to see a laboratory inspection performed (C.L.I.P. and/or Rad)

Come along and see Hospital Operations (clean up a rad room, consult with a radioactive outpatient, or setup a radiation isolation room)

Come get a tour of the Hospital facilities (Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Accelerators, Brachytherapy sources)

Come get a tour of the Physics Department’s Accelerator and Irradiator

Come get a tour of all Irradiator facilities (six)
