I found my love and passion for the golf course maintenance profession the very first time I set foot on a golf course, even though I didnt even know it at the time. The sight of nature has always inspired me, be it the ocean, mountains or meadows. Having little of such vistas in this region, I found that being on a well-maintained golf course was almost an escape from reality. That nature could be so manicured intrigued me and, on top of it all, I quite enjoy the game of golf. So, having decided that this is where I had to be, I took a job at the Singapore Island Country Club in 2007 and began learning the basics. After about a couple of years there, I enrolled in the Pennsylvania State Universitys Turf Science Program via their World Campus. Now, two and a half years later, I am close to graduation.

Work and study has been tough, but I truly enjoy the challenge of turf management. My aspiration is to become a Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Certified Golf Course Superintendent. But, just as much, I take great pride and pleasure in doing my job well and I hope to serve Raffles Country Club to the best of my abilities.

Chris Marriott is the Head Professional at Raf f les Country Club. Chris is the coach for Koh Sock Hwee and several other elite junior, amateur and

professional golfers in the region. He is the former coach for the SGA & SLGA National Squads and was also responsible for designing and implementing the inaugural Singapore Sports School Gol f Programme in 2005. Under Chriss guidance, this programme has produced numerous young champions that have tasted success on the international stage such as Lam Zhi Qun, George Foo, Nicholas Smits, Gregory Foo, Marc Ong and Edgar Oh.
