INTRODUCTION
Rahang new village was established in1949. The name of the village, Rahang
comes from a translationof its name in Hakka and Cantonese dialect: Quan Gou Wei
(泉沟尾). The new village is located in the district of Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
The nearest town, Rasah is located 4km northwest from the Rahang new
village. Seremban is located 5 km to the east of this village. A highway connects
Rasah to other parts of west Malaysia.
Many youths from Rasah new village have migrated to urban areas. As a
result there are about 30 abandoned houses in the village. Some villagers rent out
their houses to Indian households. Therefore, the population of Indian in this new
village is increasing.
There is a church called St. Mary church that was built when the new village
was established. Besides, there are 5 Chinese temples in Rahang new village. The
number of Chinese temples is not surprising as 90% of villagers are Chinese.

According to the village head, Mr. Chong Hoi Yan, the current population of
the village is estimated to be 3,000. The Chinese make up 90% of this population and
the Indians make up the remaining 10%. Due to the composition of the population,
the main languages spoken by the villagers are Hakka and Cantonese. The religions
practiced by the villagers are Buddhism and Christianity. Although this is a small
village, it has 5 Chinese temples and 1 Church. The main festivals held in the village
are the Mid-Autumn Festival and Buddhist holy days.
Since 2010, the GBBM society (Gerakan Belia Bersatu Malaysia) has been
organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival together with the JKKK Kampung Baru Rahang.
This festival attracts many villagers as well as outsiders. There are many activities
taking place during this festival, e.g.competition, guess lantern riddles and walks

The primary school in Rahang New Village was named SJK (C) Kampung

on a hill slope where students enjoy a panoramic view of the village. According to
the assistant headmaster, there are around 530 students enrolled in 2014. The number
of students is decreasing due to the opening of a new school at Sungai Salak. Each
standard or level of study has 3 classes and each class has around 30 students. This
primary school is adequately staffed with 37 teachers and 5 janitors. Given its current

Village roads are well maintained. Previous problems with traffic congestion
has been solved with the construction a highway which links the village to many parts
of west Malaysia. There used to be floods in the village during the rainy season but
the authorities have deal with this by improving the drainage system.

PROBLEMS
1. There are traffic jams in front of the primary school at the end of the school
season every day.
2. Some villagers point out that signage from the Highway to the village is poor.
The old signage was removed when the highway was constructed.
3. There are limited employment opportunities in Rahang new village. This
leads to an outmigration of the younger generation.
4. There are many stray animals in the village.

RECOMMENDATIONS
It is recommended that the school management considers widening the road in
front of the school.
An appeal should be made to the authorities to put up clear signages from the
Highway to the village.
New investment need to be drawn to Rahang new village to boost the local
economy. This is essential if this village plans to keep its younger generation who are
the future of this village.
Perhaps the tourism value of this village needs to be publicized and enhanced.
The St. Mary’s church is a historic building and the local Chinese temples are
testament to the village’s cultural heritage.
