(ONE ROPE BRIDGE EVENT)

1. This is a timed event. The team constructing a one-rope bridge in the fastest time will win. Each team must properly construct a one-rope bridge using the proper knots and equipment. There will be a 5 minute preparation time in order for cadets to tie all seats. This includes Aussie seats for near and far-side anchors and Swiss seats for the rest of the team. You will be able to lay out your rope at this time, but no knots may be put in the rope at this time. Recommend a rope of at least 150 feet.

2. The time will start when the grader says, “Go.” The time will stop when all team members have crossed the obstacle and all knots on the one-rope bridge have been untied. Teams will not be required to untie seats before time is called.

3. The grader will establish the boundaries and answer any questions prior to evaluating the team.

4. REQUIREMENTS:

a. Uniform must consist of full ACU attire including canteens (or water bladder), headgear and your team rucksack. Headgear may be in your pocket, but it must be on your person at all times.

b. Far-side anchor must have a minimum of two round turns and two half hitches. Near-side anchor must have a wireman’s knot with a metal snap link and at a minimum two round turns and two half hitches. The butterfly knot is also an authorized knot for the nearside anchor.

c. All team members must wear properly tied Swiss-seats with snap links, excluding near and far anchors. Near and far anchors will tie Aussie seats with snap links on the back of the seat. They will then attach the rope to the carabiner via an appropriate knot (bowline or figure-eight).

d. Every member of the team must cross the obstacle or the team will forfeit this event.

5. PENALTIES:

a. A 30-second penalty will be assessed for every improperly tied knot. b. A 30-second penalty will be assessed every time a member of the team or their equipment touches or drops to the ground while crossing the obstacle. c. A 30-second penalty will be assessed for every member crossing the restricted boundary established by the lane grader. d. A 60-second penalty will be assessed for every member of the team that drags him or herself across the bridge on the ground or if they have to “walk across” the bridge.

LEADERSHIP REACTION COURSE

Your team of eight cadets will maneuver through a field of hot lava. The first time crossing the obstacle your team will have six square tiles and you will work together as a team to cross to the other side by laying the tiles on the ground to use as “stepping stones.” Once you have crossed the field of hot lava you will turn around and start back across. For the return trip, you will use two boards that are approximately twelve feet long with ropes attached at each end. The team will stand on the boards using teamwork and coordination to walk to the other side.

1. Time will begin when the judge indicates and will end once the boards have crossed the finish/start line. A 30-second penalty will be imposed each time any member of the team steps off one of the boards.

2. A 30-second penalty will be imposed for each cadet who touches the lava field.

3. The obstacles may be negotiated in any form as long as it is not deemed dangerous to the judge.

4. Cadets are NOT allowed to jump from any tiles. If they do so they will be asked to go back where they were and find another way to cross the obstacle. Tiles must be retrieved and brought back to the start point.

Biathlon

1. During this event all team members will line up behind the start/finish line. On the command Go, the clock will start. It will stop once the entire team completes the course and crosses the finish line. Each team member will throw a dart in the standing position.

2. Each Raider team will be divided into four, two-person teams. Each two-person team will carry a sandbag with them throughout two laps of the course. The first cadet of the two-person team will carry the sandbag with them as they proceed on the first lap. Upon completion of the first lap, the cadet who carried the sandbag on the first lap will set the sandbag on the ground in the designated area and throw a dart at a dart board. After the dart is thrown the second person of the two-person team will then pick up the sandbag, and the two-person team will proceed on the second and final lap. Upon completion of two laps the second person will place the sandbag on the ground in the designated location (the second person does NOT throw a dart). The next team will then repeat actions of the first team. Actions will continue until each two-person team completes the same actions as the first team.

3. Teams who complete the event without the sandbags, or empty sand out of the bags will be disqualified. If a cadet drops the sandbag and it breaks apart, that cadet must go back to the start/finish line and retrieve another sandbag. The time will continue to run during this time. Only the cadet who dropped the sandbag can retrieve a new one…NO ONE ELSE CAN DO SO!!

4. The winner will be the team with the fastest overall time after reductions and additions are calculated. A reduction in the overall time will be awarded based on points earned during the dart throw (see below). Time will be added to the overall time based on penalties listed below.

Scoring: In order for a dart to count for or against a team, it must hit and remain in the target, i.e., it cannot strike the target and then fall out and drop to the ground. Each point scored as a result of throwing a dart will be multiplied by 10. The resulting number, in seconds, will be subtracted from the team’s overall time on the course.

Penalties:

- 10 seconds will be added to the overall time for each dart that misses the paper target completely (this includes any dart that hits the board on which the target may be placed…it still missed the paper target).

- 10 seconds will be added to the overall time if the dart strikes, but fails to remain lodged in the paper target. (Note: If a dart hits and remains lodged in the paper target, but hits outside the point boundaries, there is no change made to the overall time).

- 10 seconds will be added for each item that is dropped (hat, canteen, etc.)
