INTRODUCTION

Dear Reader,

The history of railways and railway industry in the Republic of Croatia began in 1860 when the first

railway line Kotoriba-Čakovec was built as part of the main railway line Vienna-Trieste.

By further construction of railway lines and the increase of the number of engines and wagons which

were used, the need to build industrial plants for repair and maintenance of engines and wagons has

appeared. Thus, in 1894 in Zagreb, the first main workshops of the Hungarian State Railways for

inspection and repair of steam engines was opened.

By adoption of new technologies, manufacturers of engines, passengers and cargo wagons

developed in Croatia, as well as equipment for railway infrastructure. Part of manufacturers from

railway industry has been gathered in the Affiliation of Railway Industry with the Croatian Chamber

of Economy.

In order to familiarise you with today’s possibilities offered by Croatian companies in the field of

railway industry, a Catalogue of railway industry in Croatia has been made and whose first copy is

before you. We believe that the Catalogue covers only a small part of the Croatian railway industry

and we hope that the next publication will include new Croatian companies wishing to be listed in

its contents.

Main products: The company has five decades of experience in cabling,
