Engine Driver’s Message

Our School News

Walt Disney once said, “You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful ideas in the world, but it requires people to make the dream a reality”. This is certainly the case as a principal. The reality is that the learning experiences and projects, which have taken place this year, could not have happened without a great deal of commitment and support from staff, parents and students. When I reflect on this past year, I acknowledge that we have faced the odd challenge or two; however, the rewards have far outweighed the challenges. All of our experiences throughout the year have contributed in some way to ensuring we can offer the best learning opportunities for our students. I believe we have a unique place for students to learn and belong. We have continued to celebrate student success, in the classroom, on the playground and on the sporting field. Our students have demonstrated that they are more willing to make mistakes and learn from them. They understand the importance of setting goals to improve their learning and

have taught us they are not afraid to reach for the stars. We say farewell to two of our staff members at the end of this year. Jan Fraser is moving to Alma Public School, and Chelise Jones will head off to become a mother for the second time around. We wish both of these lovely women all the very best for their next adventure and thank them for all that they have done for our school. To our departing families and students, thank you for the valuable contributions you have made to our school over the years. To our returning staff, students and families, we look forward to strengthening our relationship with you and embarking on the next part of journey on 2018. I would like to wish all of our Railway Town families a safe and happy Christmas and holiday.

See you in 2018…. Kerry-Sue Pascoe Principal

3/4R gave a wonderful presentation of their Design and Technology work last Tuesday morning. They have spent a number of months researching, designing, model making, evaluating and presenting playground spaces that could improve Sturt Park. Students decided early on, to focus on making their designs accessible for people with disabilities, all ages, using sustainable or recyclable materials when possible. There were also a lot of solar panels used and a focus on sensory stimulation with music, smells, bush tucker, colours, shapes and a wide range of movement opportunities. Water, risk taking, fitness, technology and sculpture also featured.

We had a lot of parents come to look and were visited by five members of council. Unknown to us, the council are looking to spend quite a bit of money on upgrades to Sturt Park and were very keen to see our ideas and ask for our students' input.

They spoke to each student and took a LOT of notes. Council have asked if they can come back after more planning and seek our students' feedback on the ideas for Sturt Park, of course we said yes! It was a wonderful opportunity to show off their hard work, have real world feedback and share our creative ideas. Well done 3/4R!

Thank you to all the families and friends who visited and joined in also. Please remember to bring in your fundraising card and money to the office by Wednesday this week. There will be a special prize awarded at the Talent Quest for the most money raised! Well done Railway Town on another Wheely Wonderful Wheelathon!!

On Friday we all enjoyed the 2017 Wheelathon with great enthusiasm. Miss Vaughan was thoroughly excited and had a wheely wheely wonderful time! There were a lot of wheely creative entries this year and many decorated in a Christmas theme. Special prizes went to Liam Watson, Maddie O'Neill and Tan Bamrungphakdee.

Christmas Time – By Cameron O’Reilly (ML)

Tuesday 12th December Last day of Canteen for 2017

Dear Santa,

I would like some Lego city sets to build and some pieces to build my Lego shop, please.

I need some school accessories for school, some textas and a pen.

I would like to have some clothes that fit me and some Minecraft shirts.

I would like some “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” picture books.

I would like to get everybody into the Christmas spirit so everyone can have the best Christmas.

I would like to give some things to other people, like some love and toys for little kids. I would feel very proud for doing things like that, and making the kids very happy and making people believe in Santa and a Christmas Elf.

A big thank you to K/1W and 1/2M parents and carers for assisting with our Science investigation of toys that move; as well as light and sound items. We had great sessions investigating as well as in-Depth discussions with the variety of examples sent in. Ms Warwick.

Thank You

Christmas Wishes
