Project Details

Description: The Noman M. Cole, Jr. Pollution Control Rain Garden project was substantially completed on 06/21/13 on time and within budget. This is a water quality improvement project that will benefit receiving waters and the Chesapeake Bay. The project consisted of installing a bioretention filter adjacent to the plant laboratory to capture roof and sheet flow runoff.

Project Overview: The bioretention filter improves water quality by treating runoff from about 0.62 acres of drainage area. It removes 2.7 lbs/yr of nitrogen, 0.33 lbs/yr of phosphorus, and 72 lbs/yr of sediment from the runoff leading to the Pohick Creek.
