The Rain Water Management System (R.W.M.S) is a system
that is used to collect rainwater during rainy days and
allocate it around a household automatically according to a
users needs. The user can choose how much water to
allocate to different parts of the house using a graphical
LCD and touchscreen. The system runs on an internal
scheduler which will automatically detect the right time to
do certain tasks. The system will also perform automatic
leak checking and maintenance and alert the user if there is
a problem.
The entire system is centralised around the GUI system
which works only with a touchscreen and Graphic LCD. It
has 3 screens and to navigate to each screen you perform a
slide gesture on the screen, which navigates to the next
screen, like an Android phone. The three screens are: Water Allocation screen, which allows you to
allocate water around the house as desired, the Scheduler screen, which shows the current system
time and at what times the scheduled tasks will begin and the System Overview screen, which shows
the allocation summary, the status of the main tank, whether the filters are clean or dirty and if
there are any leaks in the system. When the time for water allocation is ready, the system transfers
the water around the house working on a principle of sequence control. The water allocation can be
done in either percentage or millilitres/litres, whichever is
preferred by the user. This affords for flexibility. In cases where
the actual water is less than the requested amount, the system
adjusts dynamically and does intelligent adaptive control to
allocate the water around the house.
The system also has a maintenance mode, where it carries out
leak checking around the systems pipes. This happens at
another time, preferably night, and the system fills with water
to check if there are leaks. If there are, the system empties out
all the water and locks up. This is a safety measure. It also
detects when it is raining and automatically opens and closes
the top lid to collect the rain.
The system works with actual water and has been tried and
tested. Though the process is of moderate speed, the accuracy is impeccable and it is a system that is
very much needed in this eco-friendly environment around the world where people are trying to save
money wherever possible.
