The Rancho RS5000X shock absorber and spring range have been designed and developed in Australia to meet the demands of 4x4 use on and off the road, and in compliance with Australian regulations.

Thousands of engineering hours have been logged in developing a product range that provides a perfect balance of:

• Ride quality

• Road holding

• Load carrying capability

• Improved off road clearance

The Rancho RS5000™X series design includes patented progressive rebound and compression discs. At lower speeds or in the earlier stages of the shock’s travel, a low speed tuning disc in the valve shim stacks will engage the valving at lower frequencies, helping to control the energy of motion as the cycle of the shock increases or decreases in its action.

When hitting a pothole or off-road trail obstacle, Rancho’s Progressive Engagement Valving allows for early flow of fluid, helping to reduce harsh initial impacts and to control the flow of fluid in a progressive, gradual manner through the valving.

During on- or off-road driving activities like washboard roads or when travelling on a rough track, the early flow of fluid helps to minimize a “rough” ride as the piston movement is able to glide through the initial travel motion of the shock with minimal ground impact or force. If needed, the Progressive Engagement Valving will further engage to maintain control and stability.

7 Check rebound travel at the wheel, 40mm of rebound travel must be maintained to ensure suspension is not in contact with rebound stops as this can result in reduced handling performance. Do not use coil spacers / trim packers that reduce rebound travel to less than 40mm.

8 To maintain 2/3 of OE rebound travel, long travel shock absorbers must be fitted.

9 To maintain wheel alignment and safe handling, caster correction kit must be fitted.

10 To avoid potential over-stressing of the coil spring, the use of bump stop spacers is recommended.

11 To avoid contact between sway bar and differential at full hang when using long travel shock absorber, extended sway bar links must be fitted.

12 To maintain brake balance and braking system performance with an increase in body height a Brake Proportioning Valve relocation kit must be installed.

13 To avoid contact between sway bar and drive shaft at full hang when using long travel shock absorber, sway bar spacers must be fitted.

14 To avoid over-stressing of ABS line (where applicable) when using long travel shock absorber, ABS line relocation kit must be fitted.

15 To avoid contact or inversion of sway bar at full hang when using long travel shock absorbers, extended sway bar links must be fitted.

WHAT DOES OWNER CERTIFICATION MEAN?

• No requirement for Testing and Certification by an Approved Engineer ($1,500 - $2,500).

• No impact on road worthiness – just seek approval from / notify your state Road Transport Authority prior to modification as needed per Table 2.

• No impact on most insurance – just notify your insurer prior to modification.

WHY ARE SOME OF THE RANCHO LIFTS LESS THAN 50MM?

• Compliance with 1/3 rebound travel lift limit in NCOP-11. This limit ensures:

• Safe vehicle handling (no inside wheel lift during heavy cornering)

• Durability of suspension components (no frequent ‘topping’ of suspension)

• Tail shaft vibration (some vehicles exhibit excessive vibration at 50mm lift)

• Limitations of brake and axle breather hoses (some original equipment is overstressed with the long travel shock absorbers required for a 50mm lift)

OTHER THAN SHOCKS AND SPRINGS, WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED TO RAISE A 4X4?

Raising a 4x4 is frequently not as simple as just replacing the Shock Absorbers and Springs. Some examples of additional components and considerations are:

• Wheel alignment products (e.g. castor correction bushings on solid front axles).

• Brake proportioning valve adjustment (may require adjustment bracket).

• Tail shaft / rear differential alignment products (e.g. castor wedges, spacer kits).

• Potential contact between drivetrain & sway bars when using long travel shock absorbers (may require longer sway bar links / sway bar mounting packers).

• Potential over stressing of brake hoses / ABS lines (may require relocation kits).

This catalogue contains footnotes detailing the additional components required to complete a safe lift and to ensure trouble free motoring with your raised 4x4.

Please retension U-Bolts after first 1500km of driving.

MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHOCKS AND SPRINGS.

Springs and Shock Absorbers should be selected in accordance with the load ratings listed in the application guide. Selecting a spring for a higher load than your vehicle is carrying may result in a lift above the NCOP-11 owner certification limit.

Front Axles

• 0-90kg load: suited to vehicles with:

• No bull bar / alloy bull bar.

• Steel bull bar but no additional items

• 90-120kg load: suited to vehicles with steel bar and winch or underbody protection.

Rear Axles

• 0kg to GVM: suited for general use including daily driving. These packages provide:

• Legal lift & good ride quality when unladen.

• Optimised body control with a 250kg load.

• Adequate body control at GVM.

• 250kg to GVM: suited for use on vehicles with multiple heavy permanent accessories such as:

• Steel roof racks

• Spare wheel carriers

• Tow bars

• Long range fuel tanks

• Drawer systems

• These 250kg to GVM packages provide:

• Legal lift at loads of 250kg or greater (potentially illegal below 250kg)

• Good ride quality at 250kg load (reduced ride quality unladen)

• Optimised body control at GVM

• 250kg to GVM packages should only be fitted to vehicles with multiple heavy permanent accessories accordingly.
