Conservation of heritage was a very important part of this project and intended to help protect heritage while promoting tourism in the region.

Name of assignment or Project: Development Plan for Russian Painter Nicholas Roerich, Naggar, Kullu, Himalayas, Year: 1999 – 2001 Location: Himalayas, India Client: Russian Painter Nicholas Roerich Main Project Features: Preparation of a Development plan for Professor and Painter Nicholas Roerich Memorial in Nagar in Kullu Valley in Himalayas. Positions Held: Urban Designer Activities Performed: Currently working on the preparation of a Development plan for Professor and Painter Nicholas Roerich Memorial in Nagar in Kullu Valley in Himalayas. Conservation of Roerich's heritage is one of the objectives of the Development Plan alongwith projecting the place on the philosophy and works of Professor Roerich to use it as a institution to better the quality of life of local people and provide access to international interest groups on Nicholas Roerich. The Project is promoted by Nicholas Roerich Memorial Trust, Naggar, Himachal Pradesh. Addressing issues related to ecological approach to development in Himalayas and architectural context are also the main concerns of the project. Name of assignment or Project: Development of Tourism Facilities for Banaras House Ltd., New Delhi Year: 1995 Location: Uttar Pradesh, India Client: Banaras House Ltd. Main Project Features: The project was meant to identify, locate, design and develop tourism facilities on the highways for the highway users. Positions Held: Urban Designer Activities Performed: The project programme was developed in the form of motels in association with petrol pumps and other services for highway travelers. These motels were also seen as resorts and were located in natural surroundings. Name of assignment or Project: Adaptive Reuse Project for an old Palace in BanarasYear: 1995 Location: Uttar Pradesh, India Client: Banaras House Ltd. Main Project Features: The project dealt with reuse potentials of an old palace in Banaras, which was to be converted into a hotel on the banks of River Ganges. Positions Held: Urban Designer Activities Performed: The exercise was interesting from the point of view of heritage conservation and reuse of old and abandoned buildings. The palace building in order to function as a luxury hotel is to undergo a restoration programme with an extension in the form of new building. Name of assignment or Project: Environmental Impact Study, Central Area, Shimla.Year: 1987 Location: Himachal Pradesh, India Client: HUDCO, Himachal Pradesh Main Project Features: Environmental Impact Study Positions Held: Urban Designer Activities Performed: Shimla being an important hill town in India, its deteriorating image and environmental conditions are the key concerns to retain tourism potential of the town. Based on the study of the central area series of guidelines for conservation of architectural and urban heritage, and restructuring and renewal of area was suggested to achieve environmental and image upgradation. As a result of this study a pilot project of redevelopment of Municipal Market was delineated to demonstrate urban design guidelines. The project was funded by HUDCO with Municipal Corporation of Shimla was the client. Worked on the project in the capacity of an urban designer of a multidisciplinary team. Name of assignment or Project: A Redevelopment Project for Municipal Market, Central Area, Shimla Year: 1987 Location: Himachal Pradesh, India Client: HUDCO, India Main Project Features: This project was an outcome of an environmental assessment carried out in the congested central area of Shimla. The project was meant to demonstrate how environmental and image conservation exercise can be carried out in ecologically and culturally sensitive urban districts. Existing functions were reincorporated in the project along with new project programme.
