Rajasthan is a state where tradition and glory meet in the
midst of colours. It is endowed with magnificent forts,
palaces, natural resources, heritage, beauty and culture.
With the lofty hills of Aravali-one of the oldest mountain
ranges of the world and the golden sand dunes of the
Great Indian Desert.
Rajasthan is located in the north-western region of India.
It is the largest State in the Republic of India. It forms a
corridor between the northern and the western state of
the country

• Rajasthan seems to be in the early third stage of the
demographic transition, where the birth rate has
dipped from a high of 42.4 in 1972 to 26.7 in 2010
and death rate has dipped from 16.8 to 6.7 per
thousand mid-year population, It is alarming that the
natural growth rate is 20.0.

Tourism
The state of Rajasthan is a major tourist destination
in India promoting culture and nature based
tourism through the opening of forts, architectural
and heritage sites, temples, festivals, fairs and
cultural events, wild life safaris, nature parks and
forests, mountains etc.
Rajasthan attracts around 25% of the total
international tourists coming to India, and about
5% of the total domestic tourists’ arrivals in India,
which in terms of numbers for 2008, was
2,98,36,564.

Roads-- The total length of roads in Rajasthan is estimated
at 1,89,034km in Mar2011. The length of surfaced roads
in the state has increased from 107436km in 2000 to
141,000km in 2007-08.
The total length of national highways passing through the
state stood at 5724km in Mar2011.This includes the
highway connecting Delhi and Mumbai, India’s two main
business and commercial centres.
The state has a well developed road network of National
and State Highways. 20 National Highways, totaling 5722
km pass through the different State.
TRANSPOTATION
Railways -- The total length of railway network in
Rajasthan is 5683.01km in Mar2008. Till recently, a
significant portion of the existing railway network in
based on broad gauge.
Almost, 3,885.47km (68.37%) was covered under broad
gauge,
1,710.78 km (30.10%) under meter gauge and 86.76 km
(1.53%) under narrow gauge.
There is a wide network of railways connecting with
Rajasthan with all major cities in India.
- Rajasthan has full-fledged airports at
Jaipur, Bikaner, Kota, Jodhpur,
Udaipur, and Jaisalmer.
Jaipur has recently been designated as an
international airport at Sanganer.

Agriculture and Animal Husbandry
• The agriculture sector contributes 27% to
Rajasthan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
and is critical to the economy of the state.
• The contribution of animal husbandry to the
GDP of the state is about 9.16%.

Mining
Mining and mineral sector is the key developmental sector for
Rajasthan. In terms of the total value of India’s mineral
production, the State contributes 5.74% of the total value and
ranks fifth after Bihar (13.09%), Madhya Pradesh (9.68),
Gujarat (8.55%), and Assam (7.3%).
Rajasthan contributes to about 22% of industrial mineral
production in the country including production of around 15% in
metallic, 25% in nonmetallic and 26% in minor mineral
categories. It has vast reserves of both metallic and non-metallic
resources. There are 44 major minerals and 22 minor minerals
found and produced in the state.
