of Missions of the Little River Baptist Association is a man who was called to be a pastor at the age of 48 and who aince that time has ICltlOmplished more (or the church than aome men who have been involved since childhood

The Liule River Baptist Association i5 made up of 37 church~ and two missions It is connected with the Baptist State Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention but all three of the bodies are autonomous

Approximately 79 asIOciations are connected with the Baptist State Convention For a church to become a member of the Asaoclation it must prove that it i5 of like faith with the other churches in the asaociation

A mission is a religious body that is not yet a tburch Westfield Baptist Church was originally a mission of First 8aptiat Church of Dunn and eventually beeame a church

Dunng Lhe Korean Conflict Laughrun served in the Navy After the conflict he attended East Tenne see State in Johnson City Tennessee and graduated third in a dass of several hundred student~

He taught high school algebra at Unicoi High Slt-hool for a year and then decided to forego tealmiddothing for a job with Aema u a claims representative in Richmond Virginia and Knoxville Tennessee

He was with Aetna for three years He Lhen served as a medical representative tor Burroughs -Wellcome in Bristol Tennessee for 12 years

It wagt at this point in lite that Laughrun decided at I he age of 48 to attend the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest

Laughrun said I just kept feeling that something wagt missing I wasnt quite sure just vhat it was I kept going from one job to another but never did quite find just what I was looking for until 1lfter I bcgans to attend the seminary

After gradlltlting rom the Seminary in 1974 he was a pastor at Mt Pisgah Baptist ChUtth in Fayetlemiddotillc for four years

UpchUtth per uaded Rev Laughrun to accept a position at Campbell Uni1ersity as Director of Corporate Relations He held this position for a few months A position u the Director of the Admission and Financial Aid Departments opened up and Rev Laughrun asked if he could try his hand in this position

lte was a much beloved and well-known Director for about four year lfo reealls hls years at Campbell fondly

He said l really enjoyed working in the Admislions and Finuneial Aid I enjoyed working wilh young people and helping them 1 enjoyed being able to help a student get the Joan11 and grants without whith he could not continue a1 school

In a way I rill$ able Lo continue my ministry there because I COuld actively help people I liked working there

In 1983 Rev Laughrun was offored his present position He enjoys being involved wnh the actual running of ihe As~ciat10n and watching its continual growth

Rev Laughrun is married to his high school sweetheart tho former Lena Miller of Erwin Tennesee His wife Is the Director or Curriculum at Campbell University They have two children Judy Carroll of Titusville Florida and Michael Laughrun of Capron lrginia

Laughrun has ~longed to many clubs and organizations He Is a former member of the Board of DirectAgtrs of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce former Lion in Bristol Tennessee and former member of the Chaplains Advisory Council or the Cumberland County Hospital System

He is currently a pre11ident of the Board of the Little River Acts and is a 32 degree Scottish Rites mason

Laughrun said I have been enjoying working fur Lhe Association We have a desire lo mlke the Association more visible and will work on this goal We are looking forward to building our new cenltr and continuing the work of the Associationmiddot

The Rev I B Laughrun Jr

The Rev I B Laughrun Jr bom on August 14 1924 served as the Director of Missions tor Little River Baptist Association from the summer of 1983 until a few months prior to his death on September 14 1988 from cancer He led the Association In the building and equipping ol Its new Assoclatlonal Center In 1985 set up an excellent adm1nsstratlve procedure for the Association and was the friend and confidant of Little River Pastors Under his leadership the Anderson Creek Mission and two Spanish speaking missions were established

Mr Laugh run was one who was streng th to those around him from the earliest days of his Ille He committed his Ille to the Lordship of Jesus accepting Him as Savior at an early age His Ille has blessed many along the way He wor1ced his way through East Tennessee State University by working with the Cllnchfleld Railroad In Erwin Tenn where he was born He served his country as a Merchant Manne and was on a ship underflre during World World II He later demonstrated Intelligence enthusiasm and a winning spirit as he served three pharmaceutical companies as a sales representative over a period of 14 years

Upon hearing the call to preach the Gospel he entered Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary He pastored Mt Pisgah and Bullock Baptist Churches both In North Carolina He later served as Financial Aid Director at Campbell Univers ity where he took It as a personal challenge to facilitate deserving studen ts In their goal of obtaining a college education He resigned this position upon receiving the call as Director ol M1ss1ons for Little River Association

It is In recognition of Rev Laughruns years of faithful service to the association and the Lord that the Little River Baptist Association dedicates the minutes of the 1988 Annual Session In his memory

Laughrun llliO stressed similar thoughts about lhe unity or the Association and how he believes it reaches out Lo people He said that it brings not only churches but also people together in their wor hip or God and learning about His ways

Laughrun has always believed in God and attended a church bul il was not witll he reached late middl~ age that he received a calling to beoome a pastor

Enroute to becoming a pastor Laughrun was a mercltant marine teacher and several other lt1ccupatiuns

Raised in Erwin Tennessee he attended Unicoi Uf8h amphool After gnduat ion he was in ther menhanl marinec for thrt-e years Between 1947 and 1951 he was a SVltchman and _yardman for lh Clinchficld RaTiroad

Dunng Lhe Korean Conflict Laughrun served in the Navy After the conflict he attended East Tenne see State in Johnson City Tennessee and graduated third in a dass of several hundred student~

He taught high school algebra at Unicoi High Slt-hool for a year and then decided to forego tealmiddothing for a job with Aema u a claims representative in Richmond Virginia and Knoxville Tennessee

He was with Aetna for three years He Lhen served as a medical representative tor Burroughs -Wellcome in Bristol Tennessee for 12 years

It wagt at this point in lite that Laughrun decided at I he age of 48 to attend the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest

Laughrun said I just kept feeling that something wagt missing I wasnt quite sure just vhat it was I kept going from one job to another but never did quite find just what I was looking for until 1lfter I bcgans to attend the seminary

After gradlltlting rom the Seminary in 1974 he was a pastor at Mt Pisgah Baptist ChUtth in Fayetlemiddotillc for four years

UpchUtth per uaded Rev Laughrun to accept a position at Campbell Uni1ersity as Director of Corporate Relations He held this position for a few months A position u the Director of the Admission and Financial Aid Departments opened up and Rev Laughrun asked if he could try his hand in this position

lte was a much beloved and well-known Director for about four year lfo reealls hls years at Campbell fondly

He said l really enjoyed working in the Admislions and Finuneial Aid I enjoyed working wilh young people and helping them 1 enjoyed being able to help a student get the Joan11 and grants without whith he could not continue a1 school

In a way I rill$ able Lo continue my ministry there because I COuld actively help people I liked working there

In 1983 Rev Laughrun was offored his present position He enjoys being involved wnh the actual running of ihe As~ciat10n and watching its continual growth

Rev Laughrun is married to his high school sweetheart tho former Lena Miller of Erwin Tennesee His wife Is the Director or Curriculum at Campbell University They have two children Judy Carroll of Titusville Florida and Michael Laughrun of Capron lrginia

Laughrun has ~longed to many clubs and organizations He Is a former member of the Board of DirectAgtrs of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce former Lion in Bristol Tennessee and former member of the Chaplains Advisory Council or the Cumberland County Hospital System

He is currently a pre11ident of the Board of the Little River Acts and is a 32 degree Scottish Rites mason

Laughrun said I have been enjoying working fur Lhe Association We have a desire lo mlke the Association more visible and will work on this goal We are looking forward to building our new cenltr and continuing the work of the Associationmiddot

Mr Laugh run was one who was streng th to those around him from the earliest days of his Ille He committed his Ille to the Lordship of Jesus accepting Him as Savior at an early age His Ille has blessed many along the way He wor1ced his way through East Tennessee State University by working with the Cllnchfleld Railroad In Erwin Tenn where he was born He served his country as a Merchant Manne and was on a ship underflre during World World II He later demonstrated Intelligence enthusiasm and a winning spirit as he served three pharmaceutical companies as a sales representative over a period of 14 years

Upon hearing the call to preach the Gospel he entered Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary He pastored Mt Pisgah and Bullock Baptist Churches both In North Carolina He later served as Financial Aid Director at Campbell Univers ity where he took It as a personal challenge to facilitate deserving studen ts In their goal of obtaining a college education He resigned this position upon receiving the call as Director ol M1ss1ons for Little River Association

It is In recognition of Rev Laughruns years of faithful service to the association and the Lord that the Little River Baptist Association dedicates the minutes of the 1988 Annual Session In his memory
