The Texas Horse Park is located deep in the heart of the Great Trinity Forest; an urbanforested park located on the southern outskirts of the heavily urbanized area of Dallas,Texas. It is part of the larger Trinity River Project which, when complete, will be one ofthe largest urban parks in the world at 6,000 acres in size.

The Great Trinity Forest portion of the project is primarily in the area of the Trinity Riveras it traverses Dallas County just south of Downtown Dallas, and includes bottomlandhardwood forest, wetlands, open water ponds, grassland, and the river itself.

Texas Horse Park and the Great Trinity Forest land grant connect us with an importantpart of our history and to a great American man who’s name is known to every NativeTexan as Davy Crockett. A Congressman, frontiersman and volunteer who gave his lifefor a cause greater than his own.

The Sam Street's 1900 map of DallasCrockett land and surrounding parcels of land that stilllie within the Great Trinity Forest around the Audubon andTexas Horse Park areas are filled with old growth majestichardwoods, dense thickets and underbrush, all of whichmake for a ripe breeding ground for wildlife. Also adjacentto the Texas Horse Park is a beautiful natural spring alongwith a protected Native American site and a uniqueriverside watershed that is home to thousands of animals.

Texas Horse Park is an equestrian-based facility developed in partnershipwith the City of Dallas Trinity Watershed Management Department andthe Trinity River Corridor Project. Its purpose is to foster the vision ofcommunity, education, recreation, participation and conservation.

The vision was built upon the equestrian traditions and history of thegreat State of Texas; that an exciting new equestrian and outdooractivity facility set amongst beautiful pastures, hardwood trees, pondsand meadows would benefit the Dallas Community. The Texas HorsePark’s events and programs are offered on approximately 500 acres ofland within the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Old Growth Forest, just minutes from downtown.

The first of its kind for Dallas, this facility is designed to host national and internationalequestrian shows and competitions, provide miles of beautifully preserved riding trails forthe public, and will feature first-rate facilities for residents and visitors to Dallas looking tohost events such as rodeos, weddings, parties and corporate gatherings of all kinds.

, as the operator of all public events at Texas HorsePark, will provide nature and ranch experiences turning the southern Dallas park into adestination where groups and individuals can enjoy a wide range of activities and services.River Ranch will provide scholarships and discounted services for the at-risk citizens livingin Dallas and those special needs. The 2015 Capital Campaign is to assist in raising fundsfor the numerous operating costs including trail building, maintenance, equipment,Emergency Vehicles and many other costs of the community service components of thisproject.

BENEFITS Development of this unique multi-disciplinaryequestrian facility as a component of the TrinityRiver Corridor Project establishes inner-city andeducational outreach programs. This noteworthy project is a very positive andvaluable opportunity for the City of Dallas to bringeconomic activity to southern Dallas includingeducational, cultural, recreational and ecologicalprogress. As a venue for hosting events, it willprovide business, sponsor and jobopportunities. As noted by council members, there are no otherprojects in Southern Dallas in the foreseeablefuture offering potential of this level to the benefitof Dallas area families, tourists, conventioneers, corporations, therapeutic and recreational riders, community outreach programs and collegiateathletics. The benefits are certainly felt by thosewhoexperience theresults!

COSTS As a non-profit chosen to operate the TexasHorse Park facility, River Ranch EducationalCharities must raise funds to operate thecommercial and charity programs at the site. The City of Dallas will not subsidizeoperations at Texas Horse Park; therefore, private dollars are needed for its operationand community projects. River Ranch will focus its outreach to at-risk youth, underprivileged children andthose with special needs, senior citizens andveterans, offering scholarships to residents ofDallas, the surrounding communities andbeyond, as well as to other local charities. River Ranch will also conserve the land andvital piece of nature, providing an experienceof the ranch life and horse world that mightotherwise be unavailable.
