ters are never enough to spoil even the most seri-

ous campaign. Rather, the attempt to make a weird

encounter or random event t has been the making

of many a great one.

1. Banjo Wights

You can become a wight in a lot of different

ways. Barrow wights are a product of the bar-

row where they’re laid. Henge wights haunt

the stone circles of the old world. Banjo wights

were buried with an accursed banjo (yes, there

are more of these than you think). Terribly

dangerous because their level-draining attack is

sonic, but avoidable due to their lack of stealthand the difculty of pursuing intruders while

carrying a banjo. Roll enchantment of cursed

banjo randomly.

2. Boss Monster

The boss monster has his own priorities, and he

doesn’t care what yours are, although it’s will-

ing to pay them lip service to get what it wants.

Ruthless, cunning, and utterly amoral, the boss

monster always wants to be in charge of what’s

around him, whether it’s a minor lair, dungeon

level, or entire plane of existence. Their ego and

the extent of their powers expands with the scaleof their domain. Dangerous, but may be hired

away with sufcient resources.

3. Celestial Shades

They are shades—god shades. When you wear

them, even the gods can’t tell what you re-

ally think of them, and that’s cool. The shades

shift favor with divinities, celestials, and divine

beings one step towards the positive, but shift

relations with infernal beings one step negative.

The shades have an ego and random personality/

additional powers as a +3 sword. In addition toany other powers, the shades provide a second

saving throw at +2 against all attempts to charm,

read minds, or detect alignment.
