ACTIVITY REPORT (Academic Year 2018-19)
1. Title of Activity: NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME SPECIAL ANNUAL CAMP –
2019-20

3. Description of activity:
We have an effervescent NSS unit which has been established with an objective of
providing a platform for the interested students to participate in social work. The report of
the activities of the unit for the academic year 2018-19 has been a record of
accomplishments.
NSS unit of “Umang Geetai College of Women’s Education”, Panjara, Nagpur organized a
special camp in the adopted village, Kothulna from 23-01-2020 to 29-01-2020. The main
objective for this camp was based on, to make the village Kothulna aware about Water
conservation and Water Harvesting, Women empowerment literacy, Cleaning, Road Safety,
Open Defecation etc .The Volunteers of the NSS unit performed many other activities –
awareness programmes as Water Harvesting, literacy, Road safety, Health and Hygiene,
Construction and Repairs, Communal Harmony etc.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1. Understand the community in which they work.
2. Understand themselves in relation to their community.
3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem
solving process.
4. Develop among them a sense of social and civic responsibility.
5. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community
problems.
6. Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters
10. Practice national integration and social harmony.
Day – 1
Road Safety Program:
The forenoon session of the Day began with a Procession by volunteers in the village.
Volunteers rallied into the streets of the village to create awareness among the villagers
about the ensuing special camp programme in their village for a period of one week. This
was followed by an inauguration Program held at Gram Panchayat office of Village
Kothulna,. The programme was started with lightening the lamp and NSS song. The chief
guest, Mr. Harish Chaudhary, Sarpanch of Kothulna village and Mr. Prashant Kevte and
other dignitaries were welcomed by NSS Programme Co-ordinator.
The inaugural speech was delivered by Mr. Harish Chaudhary, sarpanch, Kothulna, and
Dr. Atul B. Tekade, Principal of Umang Geetai college, emphasised the role of NSS in the
community service. Program was conducted by NSS programme co-officer of the unit, Mr.
Nilesh Meshram, and expressed his opinions about the NSS camp. Sarpanch of the Village
and several village people attended the function. Village authorities welcomed the team of
volunteers into their village and assured them all sorts of co-operation needed in making
the special camp a success. Programme was then followed by refreshment to guests,
available villagers and NSS volunteers.

In the following session of the day, a Personality Development Programme was organized.
Prof. Manoj Jagnade was the speaker and conducted the session. NSS Volunteers of college
conducted various Road Safety programs such as Rally and Road play on road safety to
aware citizens of India regarding various safety measures that should be adopted while
driving the vehicles on the road.

Day – 2
Different Govt. schemes for Women:
The second day began with Prarthana and Yoga. In the dawn of the second day, volunteers
started their campaign by contacting those villagers who were going for open defecation
they made them aware about the diseases caused by open defecation. In the day time a
survey was conducted to know the basic toilet facilities in the houses of the villagers. In the
camp volunteers organised a Shramadanam Programme. About 50 volunteers divided
themselves into sub groups and went into the streets, lanes and by lanes of the village and
organized a cleanliness drive. Volunteers cleaned the village roads, removed dust heaps
and cleared the stagnant drainage flows and attempted to create awareness on Cleanliness
and hygiene.
In the afternoon session, Dr. Atul B. Tekade, Principal, Umang Geetai college, conducted a
session on “Different Govt. schemes for Women”. The programme was attended by many
local villagers and successfully completed by the cooperation of NSS candidates.
The NSS unit has arranged refreshment for the Guests, villagers and NSS candidates.

Day – 3
Water Conservation:
The third day began with Prarthana and Yoga. The rally was organized in the village by
giving different slogans of awareness. The Forenoon session of third day began with door to
door contact with village people for the good use water, use of toilets and avoids the habits
of open defecation. Volunteers also identified those village people who do not have toilet
facility in their homes.
In the evening session volunteers organised a street play focused on the harmfulness of the
open defecation, this street play was very successful. Local people shown their interest and
awareness about this issue disseminated in the community. The NSS volunteers prepared a
Bandhara on Canal nearby to village to show the way of save water and water harvesting.

Day – 4
Women Empowerment & Health Services:
The subject of fourth day camp was Women Empowerment and creation of healthy society
through community health services. Street play was also organized by the NSS volunteers
in the village. Firstly, a public announcement was made and door to door communication
done by our volunteers to inform people to avail the session on Women Empowerment &
health services. The response was excellent and about 50 village people came to attend the
programme.
This session was proved very successful and created a harmonious environment in the
community. NSS volunteers also discussed with village people about the avoidance of open
defecation. It was also felt that a sense of awareness is arsing in the community. At evening
again an intensive door to door contact was done in the leadership of NSS program officer.

Day – 5
Save Girl Child:
Our NSS college unit has organized various programmes to spread awareness on various
programmes of the theme “Save Girl Child”.
Following activities were conducted:
NSS volunteers had put up the posters on the theme “Save Girl Child” on the notice board
of “Gram Panchayat Office” and “Anganwadi” of Kothulana village to spread awareness.
NSS volunteer’s organized seminar on “Save Girl Child” to create awareness among the
villager’s. A street play was also organized by the NSS volunteers to create awareness
among the people of village. It was nicely supported by the villagers and youths. The
programme was successful and it was attended by 50 students and villagers of Kothulna. In
the programme , all the students agreed to convey messages to their relatives and friends on
the theme “Save Girl Child”.

DAY-6:
Swacch Bharat Abhiyan:
The sixth day of the camp was full of events, It was mainly dedicated to Swacch Bharat
Abhiyan .
• Posters were put up on the notice board of Gram Panchayat office and Anganwadi to
aware villagers about cleanliness.
• Home to home awareness programmes were organised to aware villager’s about open
defecation.
• Skit was performed on Swacch bharat abhiyan by NSS Volunteers at Kothulna Village,
and nearby slum area and also the Anganwadi.
• Every day near about 2 hours devoted by Volunteers on cleanliness by 50 NSS
Volunteers at Shibir, Temple area, Village area and Gram panchayat office.
• Door to Door campaign conducted by the students in village to aware children about
Cleanliness drive at Kothulna Village.

DAY-7:
Healthy society through community health services:
The Subject of seventh day camp was creation of healthy society through community health
services.
During the Afternoon of the Seventh Day Volunteers interacted with Village people and
visited the people in their houses discussed about their needs and requirements and harms
of open defecation. Volunteers created awareness through door to door campaign on
cleanliness, spread of diseases, importance of environment and judicious use of Electricity,
water harvesting and importance of ground water. A role play was also organised by
volunteers, they disseminated the message of health and hygiene. After taking dinner
volunteers discussed the project agenda and activities with NSS programme officer by
organizing camp fire.
A fire-camp on theme Safety of women was organized in Umang Kothulna village on 22nd
January 2019 by NSS officer and team. This fire-camp focused to teach students about tips &
tricks of living a healthy & safe life.
Dr. Atul B. Tekade, (Principal) explained the benefits of self-defence techniques to all
students. He described how to protect themselves from the anti-social elements.
The second point which He emphasized was how to prepare oneself mentally strong to face
the challenges in the society. He further elaborated how to fight the social evils like dowry,
sexual harassment and exploitation of women in work place with bravery. Later He made
the session interactive and cleared many doubts of the students.
Before going into the bed volunteers sang the NSS song.
On the concluding day of NSS camp, the introductory speech and detail information about
the NSS motto and mission was conveyed by Dr. Atul B. Tekade, Programme officer of NSS
Unit. In inaugural Speech Hon’ble Director Mrs. Vaishali Fuley, Umang Geetai College,
Speaker share her views and give good wishes for success of the camp. The entire
respectable chief guest shared their views and expects wonderful work from all NSS
volunteers. At last Dr. Atul B. Tekade, Principal of college has delivered a presidential
address and wish good wishes for all the NSS volunteers for success of the camp. He also
appeal to the villagers about the existing opportunities and avenues in law.

Seven Days Residential Camp: NSS Unit of our college had organised Seven Days
Residential Camp from 16th January, 2019 to 22nd January, 2019, at adopted Village of
Kothulna near Khapa. Camp was attended by 50 students and 4 staff members. The Theme
of the Camp was “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan”. NSS Volunteers conducted various activities
such as skit and debate on the topics “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan”, sanitation, nutrition and
personal hygiene, schemes for skill development, income generation, government schemes
such as Swachch Bharat, Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao, Environment and Energy
Conservation and Education, legal aid, consumer protection and allied field etc. Talks were
organised for the Volunteers on different topics such as Women Empowerment, Different
Govt. schemes for women, Consumer Awareness and NSS objectives. The purpose of the
camp was to inculcate various values such as social, cultural, moral, educational and
ethical.
The session concluded by vote of thanks proposed by NSS Program officer Dr. Atul B.
Tekade.
