“Follow directions!” How many times have you heard that? Even though it feels like we all hear it way too much (even adults), it’s still a very important thing for us to do.

In our story, Rapunzel’s mother doesn’t listen when she’s told to follow directions. She is craving the vegetable rapunzel, so she asks Hazel the horticulturist for some of her rapunzel potion. But no matter how many times she’s told to follow the directions, Rapunzel’s mother makes an impulsive choice – instead of applying the potion to her hair, she drinks it. Oh dear! Amazing and colorful things happen because she didn’t follow the directions.

We all have directions to follow and choices to make every day of our lives. We use directions to put things together, to repair things that are broken, to make our food, to play our games – we all need to listen to and follow directions every day.

Imagine life without directions: How do I get there? How do I do this? How do I make this? How do I play this game? We would spend our days VERY confused without directions. Thank goodness for them!

autographs & pictures!Deanna Sarkar (Rapunzel) ) is thrilled to be Rapunzel again with StoryBook Theater! She’s also appeared in SBT’s A Little Mermaid, Snow White, The Ugly Duckling and Sleeping Beauty. Deanna’s voice is heard as narrator in several online eLearning videos, and she has narrated nearly one hundred children’s and young adult books for the Washington Talk-ing Book and Braille Library. She spends most Christmas seasons singing with the Seattle Dickens Carolers, and has recently taken up Irish fiddling.

Pat Sibley (Witch Hazel) is happy to be returning to StoryBook Theater where she was last seen playing....Hazel in Rapunzel (with the same cast! How fun!) She has appeared in 5 other StoryBook shows, playing the Stepmother in Cinderella, Papa Bear in Goldilocks & the Three Bears, Bad Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, Sage in The Frog Prince, and the Witch

in Hansel & Gretel. Pat moved to Seattle from Los Angeles in 1992 and has worked for many theatres in the Puget Sound area. For the past 12 years she has been traveling around the country doing 5 different national tours playing Aunt Eller in Oklahoma, Mrs. Pugh in Annie, The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein and Mama in Memphis.

Deonn Ritchie Hunt (Mother) is delighted to share the stage with the same fun-loving and talented cast from StoryBook’s previous produc-tion of Rapunzel! She was last seen as Crow in last fall’s Tortoise & the Hare and she can be seen this spring as Mrs. Piggle Wiggle in Studio East’s production of Hello, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. When she is not on stage, Deonn

works as a teacher, writer, director, dialect coach, wedding officiant and tour guide. She’d like to thank her StoryBook Theater family for the continued opportunities to do what she loves and thank her real family, Mark, Luke, and Clara, for supporting her while she does it!

Simon Pringle (Prince Harry) is delighted to be back with his StoryBook family! A native of Edinburgh Scotland, and a StoryBook regular, Simon trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Simon has appeared at many local theatres including Taproot Theatre Company, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Harlequin Productions and

Centerstage. Favorite past roles at StoryBook include The Emperor in The Emperor’s New Clothes and Columbine in Sleeping Beauty. Love to Anna, Alasdair, Francis and Euan.

StoryBook Theater is produced by Studio East Training for the Performing Arts, based in Kirkland. In this 2017-18 Season we are thrilled to celebrate two milestones; StoryBook Theater’s 20th year of performing live theater for young children, and Studio East’s 25th year of training young people in the performing arts.

Studio East’s mission is to create opportunities for young people to discover and explore the performing arts. StoryBook Theater serves this mission by introducing over 45,000 patrons each year to live theater for young audiences. We believe that exposing children to the arts at an early age fosters creativity, validates different ways of seeing the world, and demonstrates creative outlets for expressing emotions.

Studio East’s many performing arts training programs – after school and homeschool classes and workshops, productions and classes at area schools, school break and summer camps, and Mainstage productions – focus on nurturing responsibility, creativity, and compassion in the youth of our community. We believe that young people who practice the discipline and dedication required by the art and craft of theater develop life skills that will serve them throughout their lives, no matter what career they pursue.
