THEME: Re-imagining University Engagement, Exploring New Frontiers for Sustainability DATE: Friday, 20 October 2017 ENQUIRIES: T .061 207 2638 E[email protected] REGISTRATION: http://srs.nust.na This is the highest award that can be bestowed on a participant or exhibitor in the said category, and NUST was one of the biggest exhibitors at the event that has become the largest trade and exhibition showpiece in the country. The University’s six Faculties each had a section to showcase their programmes. One of the highlights was that prospective students once again used the e-platform to conduct online applications for the 2018 academic year. Trade shows have become crucial platforms to inform and introduce members of the public to new technologies, inventions, services and products that can enhance socio-economic development. The Institution’s online radio station, NUST FM held live broadcasts which attracted scores of visitors to the Stand. NUST has once again won the Platinum Award as the Best Exhibitor in the Indoor Category at the Annual Windhoek Agricultural and Industrial Show. Last year, the Institution received the award for having the best stand and this year the results have been equally favourable. NUST scoops Windhoek Show Platinum Award again! A 14-member delegation made up of German academics and captains of industry, led by Theresia Bauer, the Minister of Science, Research and the Arts: State of Baden-Württemberg, visited NUST last week. The aim of the visit was for the delegates to enhance existing collaboration and explore possible or new areas for cooperation between the various German institutions and NUST. During the meeting, NUST’s research niche areas, namely Renewable Energy, Land, Livelihood and Housing, Water, and Indigenous Knowledge, were the focal points of discussion. The delegation expressed interest in partnering in water conservation and cybersecurity through staff and student exchanges, amongst other topics. German Minister visits NUST An Industry Breakfast, titled: “Global Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Supply Chain and its Role Towards Economic Growth: Lessons for Namibia,” was hosted recently by the Department of Marketing and Logistics.  Dr Manfred Bruch, a German pharmaceutical expert, and B360 expert, was the presenter at the event. The Breakfast included a panel discussion which identified niche areas that Namibia could capture such as the production and packaging of generic medicines and the marketing of it to Namibian consumers and to SADC countries. The danger of counterfeit medicines and the poor handling of medicines through the supply chain mechanism were identified as major concerns that need to be addressed in order to minimise costs and the loss of life.
