Welcome to the academic year 2016-17 and another wonderful year of learning and growing. 2015-16 was an eventful and challenging year for all Nepalis with the earthquake in April 2015, the aftershocks which continued through the year and the blockade which added unforeseen problems.

We managed to keep the school running as smoothly as possible because of our dedicated team of administrators, staff and teachers. We would like to thank the Rato Bangala Family for your support during the earthquake and during the blockade. We hope that we all have emerged from these crises as better and stronger people.

outstanding cambridge learner awards for rbs

Congratulations to the ten A Level students who received the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards 2015. Having four students receive the World Top award is an exceptional achievement indeed. Congratulations to the students, parents and the teachers. Congratulations to Ural Singh Mishra (Lang & Literature in English), Yash Nishant (General Paper), Pranav Shrestha (Mathematics) and Shardul Sapkota (Mathematics) for receiving the Top in the World Awards. The students who were Top in Nepal are Evaniya Shakya (Biology), Sarthak Mani Sharma (Economics), Apara Sharma (Environment Management) and

Suvasini Sherchan (Business Studies). Similarly, Wangden P Sherpa and Shubhashree Basnyat received High Achievement Awards for Language & Literature in English and Psychology respectively. Even for those who did not get recognized with an award, the CIE Results 2015 have been outstanding.

world school debating championship (wsdc)

We are very proud to announce that our A Level students, Abhaya Gauchan, Aakash Pant and Alaukik Nath Pant have been selected to represent Nepal in the World School Debating Championship (WSDC) to be held in Stuttgart, Germany later this year. The students participated in Mahakumbha 2016, went through a rigorous selection process and were selected along with one more student (non-RBS) to make a four-member team.

brandeis university global youth summit

A Level student Raissa Shrestha has been selected from a very competitive pool to attend the Brandeis University Global Youth Summit to be held from 26 June to 2 July, 2016. The Global Youth Summit is a seven-day residential program for high school students at Brandeis University. Student delegates attending the summit will focus on the future of the healthcare industry as well as develop leadership, networking, and collaborative skills necessary to be leaders in the field. orientation for new parents

An Orientation will be held on the 29 April, 2016 at 9:00 am in the school auditorium for Grade I parents and new parents from other grades. All new parents are invited to attend this session. This session will be conducted by the Director and Principal of RBS and will acquaint the parents with the history of the school, parenting tips, the Rato Bangala philosophy and the Outreach programme of the school.

curriculum night

The Curriculum Night is the first meeting of the academic year between the parents and the teachers of each grade. This is an opportunity for the teachers to present the curriculum of the year and for parents to interact with teachers. It is very important for parents to attend the Curriculum Night in order to understand the curriculum for the year, as well as to meet the teachers and the other parents in their child’s class. The Curriculum Night meetings are scheduled as follows:

3 May: Grade I, 5:15 pm5 May: Grade II, 5:15 pm8 May: Grade X at 9:00 a.m. 13 May: Grades: III, IV & V, 5:15 pm20 May: Grades VI, VII, 5:15 pm

22 May: Grades VIII & IX, 9:00 amPlease note that Grade VIII, IX and X are meeting in the morning.

The Rato Bangala School magazine, Cornice, is sent home at the beginning of each academic year. It represents the creativity and writing talents of the students. It also reflects the varied class projects and writing across the curriculum. We thank parents and friends who have continued to support Cornice with advertisements and have made it possible to distribute it free of cost to all the RBS students as well as to schools around the country.

parent representatives

Rato Bangala School works together with parents to meet the shared goal of educating the child in the best way possible. Parents have the option of becoming Parent Representatives for their class in order to facilitate communication between home and school. During the Curriculum Night, two interested parents volunteer to be the Parent Representatives for the academic year.

positions in the parent teacher association (pta)

From the academic year 2003/2004 Rato Bangala set up a Parent Teacher Association. There are 6 parents and 6 teachers in the PTA and the Principal/Director. Two parents, each represent Grades I-III,

IV-VI, and VII-X respectively. Parents will qualify for PTA representative candidate only after their child has completed a year at Rato Bangala. This year there will be 3 positions vacant. Interested parents are requested to volunteer for PTA positions.
