Spring has brought with it a flurry of activity at Ravensthorpe District High School. Last week the athletics carnival was a great success with many records being broken. The students thoroughly enjoyed the carnival, and I am sure next year will be the Gladiators year? I want to thank Nia Clarke and her team of volunteers for the work they put into setting up the Jumps and Throws day and the carnival on Friday. The Wildflower Festival is in full bloom, and the school will be taking part in several of the activities. Our K/P class and the high school both have excursions planned around the festival events. I will especially look forward to the Devonshire Morning Tea on Thursday next week. This week is the Australian Teachers Aide Appreciation Week. It is a time to pause and thank our Education Assistants for the fantastic work they do supporting children in the early years and those with special needs. They make a significant impact on the learning outcomes of our children. If you get a chance this week please thank our many Education Assistants for the work that they do. This year our Year 10 students are enrolled in Workplace Learning. This subject places students into the workforce for one day each week. The students are required to maintain a logbook to keep track of the hours of work and then must complete a Skills Journal that requires them to reflect on different aspects of work. Students who complete 55 hours of work and complete the logbook and journal will receive the equivalent of a ‘C’ grade for the high school graduation. The Workplace Learning program is only possible with the support of the local community. I must thank the shire, local health services and local businesses for mentoring the Year 10 students this year. I look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at next week’s class assembly. Spring has brought with it a flurry of activity at Ravensthorpe District High School.

Last week the athletics carnival was a great success with many records being

broken. The students thoroughly enjoyed the carnival, and I am sure next year will

be the Gladiators year? I want to thank Nia Clarke and her team of volunteers for

the work they put into setting up the Jumps and Throws day and the carnival on

Friday.

The Wildflower Festival is in full bloom, and the school will be taking part in several

of the activities. Our K/P class and the high school both have excursions planned

around the festival events. I will especially look forward to the Devonshire

Morning Tea on Thursday next week.

This week is the Australian Teachers Aide Appreciation Week. It is a time to pause

and thank our Education Assistants for the fantastic work they do supporting

children in the early years and those with special needs. They make a significant

impact on the learning outcomes of our children. If you get a chance this week

please thank our many Education Assistants for the work that they do.

This year our Year 10 students are enrolled in Workplace Learning. This subject

places students into the workforce for one day each week. The students are

required to maintain a logbook to keep track of the hours of work and then must

complete a Skills Journal that requires them to reflect on different aspects of work.

Students who complete 55 hours of work and complete the logbook and journal

will receive the equivalent of a ‘C’ grade for the high school graduation.

The Workplace Learning program is only possible with the support of the local

community. I must thank the shire, local health services and local businesses for

mentoring the Year 10 students this year.

I look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at next week’s class assembly.

Last week on Thursday September 5 the Years 2-6 walked to the Ravensthorpe

Entertainment Centre and Sporting Complex for an Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo Workshop

sponsored by the Ravensthorpe Regional Arts Council.

The workshop was an opportunity to make a simple dinosaur hand puppet from simple materials. Students were guided through the process and are then given the time to decorate and design the look of the puppet. We received some tips on how to operate our puppets and the mannerisms of dinosaurs.

Our students represented themselves and the school in an exemplary manner and a great

time was had by all. Many of our students attended the dinosaur show in the evening and

enjoyed watching the professionally made puppets.

The school would like to thank the Ravensthorpe Regional Arts Council for the opportunity to

experience this travelling show and workshop.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2019 :

Jumps and Throws

On Friday the 6th of September Ravensthorpe

District High School participated in the

athletics carnival. The day was perfect and ran

very smoothly. At the end of the day once

everyone was worn out and ready to go home,

we announced the winners, Warriors finished

the day on 866 points and Gladiators took the

win with 1126 points.

It was a day of great sportsmanship and high

levels of participation, which led up to a very

competitive day with many close events.

A huge thankyou to Mrs Wolfenden and Mrs

Murdock for adding up everyone’s points, Mrs

Burton for ensuring the day went as planned

and ran smoothly, Miss Monaghan and Mrs

Kalalo for keeping everyone entertained and up

to date, but also to our timers, scorers,

teachers, students and volunteers.

Also a massive thankyou to Mrs Clarke for

planning out the whole day and taking time out

of your personal life to ensure Friday was

possible, and to Mr Bell for making the jump

pits, painting the track lines, and making your

own signs to show the kids the start and finish

line.

A great effort from our Cadets, putting the carpet tiles down at the Entertainment Centre for

the Spring Carnival festivities to happen on Saturday 14th September

Well done to the following students that received Success Stories at our Assembly on

Wednesday 4th September

Levi Dadliffe - Your ambitious efforts to be a grown up Kindy student is delightful. You have worked very hard to learn that you put your hand up when you want to share your interesting thoughts. You have learnt to take turns and to listen to your friends. We are very proud of the amazing progress you have made. Stella Major - For showing great respect through her fantastic reading of Wombat Stew. You amaze me Stella! Bella Challinger - For the respect you show towards your learning in the classroom and outside of school. Your writing is becoming more creative and your reading is becoming more fluent and expressive. Well done! Macey Green - For the respect you put into your learning, especially when reciting our information report on Foxes. You have also written a well presented and outstanding information report on Dogs, while successfully using the correct text structure for information reports. Well done!

Dakota Giles - For the amazing effort you have been putting into your Health work recently. You are a respectful member of our class who ensures that you are prepared for every single lesson. You also take such care to ensure that your workbook is of the highest standard. Well done on such wonderful work Dakota. Jaye Murray - For the Ambition you are showing in all classroom activities. Your determination has allowed you to master all your Diana Rigg Sightwords and gain confidence with structuring your writing into paragraphs. Keep showing ambition and you will go far! Preston Wisewould - For the ongoing respect you show to your learning and school community members. You are a polite, well mannered student who consistently shows respect to both your peers and school staff by using your manners, appropriate language and looking after your learning resources and property.
