Doucette, a native of Newfoundland, Canada,began his tenure as an instructor after moving to Florida four years ago. He moved from Canada, where he had been a systems engineer for an IT provider. As a Tech Data instructor, Doucette travels aboutT5 percent of the time. "I've been to all the major cities in the country, as well as to some smaller places.They sent me to Alaska one time for a special on- site training. It was the first time I'd seen a moose come up to the parking lotJ' Striving for excellence Doucette, who earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from Memorial Universify in Newfoundland, spends most of his time teaching curricula on Novell, IBM, Microsoft and Cisco. He also works on numerous special projects. "I love learning - not just casual learning, but mastering products. Then I enjoy passing that knowledge on.We thrive on feedback and interaction from our students, who are akeady knowledgeable resellers. They come to us for a more in-depth look at a particular technology." Getting reody The training required to gain vendor certification as an instructor is extensive, including course work and testing. In some cases, Doucette must present portions of the course to the manufacturers themselves before earning their stamp of approval. One of his more memorable trips was "Integration 97:' a l?-city tour in which he taught UND( and 'Windows NT integration. Stops along the way included NewYork, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago. "What we try to do is give resellers the information and knowledge that provides the skills sets they need personally and professionally.
