Created physical designs for low voltage brushless DC, brushed DC and stepper motor drivers using custom ASICs and off-the shelf ICs from TI and Allegro. 15+ years experience with Mentor Graphics tools for schematic entry and physical design. Augmented the layouts by using Hyperlynx and Sigrity PowerDC simulation software to reduce current density in copper traces and polygons. Tens of millions of these expertly crafted motor drivers are reliably moving paper through Lexmark laser printers around the world.
Thermal Analysis and Simulation of Electronic Assemblies
Applied FloTHERM PCB analysis to optimize component placement and airflow for electronic PCB assemblies. Executed lab measurements with an IR camera and thermocouples to verify the accuracy of case and junction temperature predictions.
EMC Testing & UL/CSA Safety Certification
Operated 3M, 5M and 10M chambers to measure radiated & conducted emissions, susceptibility, power line disturbances, ESD on multiple mono and color laser printers leading to FCC/CISPR 22 certification. Modified PCBs, cabling, circuits, ground clips, shielding to comply with regulations. Designs comply with world-wide safety agency requirements (UL/CSA/ETL/CE) both at the PCB level and the product level. Accredited EMC tester.
Laser Printer Controller PCB Design
Designed controller card assemblies including high speed (1GHz) Embedded Processors, digital memory subsystems, DC-DC buck regulators, precise analog sensor circuits, and motor drivers for color laser printers.
Devised and ran functional tests at extreme temperature and voltages to analyze performance.
