• This came in existence about 1770.

• It was first conceptualised by Frenchman Jean-Jacques Perret in 1770.

• This was inspired by a carpenter's plane and it was made up of a wooden enclosure for a blade that only allowed a small portion to protrude out.

INTRODUCTION OF STAR • The next real step in the razors

evolution was courtesy the Kampfhe brothers. In 1880.

• This razor, now a lot bulkier, was the innovation for the modern handle-based razor design.

• It had a removable handle, head and guard along the blade lining, Titled the Star.

• The blade still needed sharpening after every few uses.

DISPOSABLE BLADES

• King C. Gillette, a travelling salesman introduced the idea of a razor having double-edged disposable blades

• It came in existence about 1895.

BLADES OF STAINLESS STEEL

• It came to market about 1960.

• Firstly Gillette started using stainless steel for their blades.

• These were more expensive to produce, but they were more stable and didn't rust.

DOUBLE EDGE SHAVER • To tackle the issue of shaving

the same area over and over again, Gillette innovated again a two-blade shaving system called the Trac II.

• This gave a cleaner, closer shave with minimum effort.

• It was a cartridge-based system also that made changing blades much easier.

• This came in existence about 1971.

TRIPLE PLAY SHAVER• Promising a closer shave

than any two-blade razor, this one had a tilting head as well as a lubricating trip for a smooth shave.

• In 2001, this was highly successful series the Mach 3 Turbo, which added extra lubrication for a smoother shave.

• It came in market about 1998.

FIVE BLADED SHAVER

• The Gillette Fusion, featuring a five-blade shaving surface on the front and a single blade precision trimmer on the back was launched.

• It came in existence near about 2005.
