STEWART MIDDLE SCHOOL Community Connections Parent Night 38505 10 th Avenue, Zephyrhills, FL 33542 | phone 813.794.6500 We are very excited to invite you to participate in our third Community Connections event of the 2016-2017 school year, which will take place on February 23, at R. B. Stewart Middle School. Parents will have the opportunity to schedule a conference with their child's teachers and meet at a designated time during the evening. We also have many exciting presentations that parents will want to attend. Don’t forget to stop by our Gymnasium and check out our “A Matter of Heart” presentation. Parents and students who attend our Community Connections event can earn five bonus points for each session they attend. These points will be added to the class of the child's choice. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Community Connections event on Thursday, February 23. It is an evening you won't want to miss! PRESENTATIONS 5:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. INFORMATION SESSIONS: A Matter of Heart: Come be “Heart Healthy” and learn about the parts of the heart and the actions we can take to be healthy with exercise and diet while visiting our four-part presentation in the gymnasium. o Fitbit Time – Learn about Fitbits by joining in on our mini fitness stations in the main gym area. o Heart Myth Busters – Use Ipads, the Kahoots App, and heart models to learn about the heart in our multipurpose classroom. o Workout with a Trainer – Learn about exercising with weights and meet with a trainer for Q and A in our weightroom. o Healthy Food Choices – Learn about nutrition and sample healthy food choices in our gym lobby. Mom’s Memo Board and Card Making: Decorate personalized white boards or make a Mother’s Day card for Mom. Sponsored by the PTO. AVID – Session 1 – Current AVID Students: This session will focus on continuing our community service and developing citizenship. We will kick off our next service project and discuss ways to individually help our community. This session is reserved for current AVID Students Only. AVID -Session 2 – Prospective Students: This session is designed for those who are considering applying for AVID. We will look at what AVID offers to students and answer questions students and families may have about our AVID Elective and the application process. Gifted: Please join us for a discussion of your child. Let us model what self-advocacy looks like through a constructive, collaborative discussion between parents, children and teachers. This session is reserved for current Gifted Students Only. Can We Talk? – Learning how to keep the lines of communication open with your child. Tired of one-word answers? We can help! Join us for tips and strategies on how to effectively talk to your middle schooler. Art Exhibit: Join us for our Second Semester Art Show. Art from Exploring 2D Art and Art in World Cultures classes will be shown in the Lobby of building 10. Come see what Art has to offer.
