Objectives
•Map the land use/ cover in the area, especially forest
•Delineate the boundary between the plantation and indigenous forests
• Establish ground controls for management of the forest

General Guideline: Boundary should be kept as straight as possible The physical infrastructure and equipment associated with the FD’s
previous responsibilities should be assessed relative to the plantations Animal breeding sites, watering points and salt licks should be
designated as indigenous In cases of steep escarpments, valleys ridges, there should be attempts to
have the boundary follow contours The more flat areas to be reserved for plantation forests

Recommendation
Training of the Forestry Department (FD) and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) field officers in GIS and Remote sensing
If the wild animals are to be completely enclosed in the indigenous Forest an electric fence should be used
It was observed that the forest reserve boundary has not been surveyed A fixed cadastral survey is therefore recommended to formalize the forest reserve boundary
