New fans to College Hall from 95 Group
The Group of 95 has come forward to replace the fans at the
college main hall. This was a long felt need as the college hall hosts
many official functions involving both Royalists and visitors alike.
Royal College main hall is the main symbol of this esteemed
institution.
From commemorative stamps to college web site, in many
significant publications the image of the college hall has been used
prominently due to this simple reason. Therefore all the Royalists;
past and present are duty bound to maintain this building in the
best possible condition.
The executive committee of group of 95 noticed the poor condition
of the fans that were installed in the main college hall and took up
the task of replacing them with new fans while maintaining the
grandeur of this colonial era building. The most difficult task was to
find new fans which look similar to the ones that were installed
few decades back, blending in harmony with majestic old British
architecture. The executive committee had a hard time on finding
fans with identical shapes and colour; in fact, to achieve that, they
had to practically spray paint in a matching colour! At the end this
was successfully accomplished to the satisfaction of all.
This project was entirely funded by the members of 95
group through personal donations.
This initiative by the 95 group was very well timed, as the
college hall will host many official functions of the 175th
anniversary celebrations including the Pirith Ceremony.

Workshop on Nutrition for RC Football Players
As we are celebrating 175th anniversary of this great school, enthusiasm shown towards the game of
football at Royal has never been before. This is mainly because of the commitment and dedication of
the College authorities led by the principal sir, members of FA & MC, players and their parents who work
together towards a common goal to bring up the sport to greater heights. Furthermore we cannot
forget our sponsors especially ORUAE who support us through out. Its sheer hard work, regular training,
match practice, good coaching, technical support, etc, etc…has put us where we are today. How ever to
become the best needs more than ordinary. That’s why we (FA & MC), have looked into the aspects like
proper nutrition, psychological support, power training, etc. As an initiative FA & MC has started a
Nutrition program for all the foot ballplayers at RC.
This program consists of 03 steps
1. Screening and evaluating of nutritional states of each and every player.
2. Educating the players as well as their parents and the coaches regarding proper nutrition.
3. Help to maintain a good nutritional state of each and every player by providing food
supplements and other requirements.
We are glad to inform you that we have successfully completed the first two steps of our program.
First Step - Screening and evaluating of nutritional states
Results of the Nutritional screening
Total no screened: 79%
No of undernourished: 26%
Percentage of undernourished: 32.9 %
Second step - Nutrition Education
As the second step of our program we arranged a lecture and a discussion on nutrition, for RC football
players and especially for their parents. We are very proud to say that it has been a very successful
event. Both parents and the children showed a lot of interest in learning and understanding concepts
and practices pertaining to sports nutrition. The lecture was conducted by Miss.Amal Firous BSC
Nutrition, Dietitian at Asiri Hospital, in front of a full house.
The audience had a lot of important issues to get clarified and questions were well answered by the
guest speaker. Since we have successfully completed the first two steps of the program, only the third
step remains to be started. In the first step, it reveled that 33 % of our players are below the 5th
percentile of the normal nutritional curve. By the second step now we have learn the ways to improve
ourselves. Time has come for our sponsors to come forward and help us to commence the third step of
the program. That is to help these lads to improve their nutritional states, to help the Royal to become
the football playing school in the Island!
