It gives us immense pleasure to introduce one and all to the second edition of

‘Razzmatazz’. We, the members of the HSNC Board institutions have always

endeavoured to build a brand that spells success and as the great Benjamin Franklin so

powerfully stated, success can only come from continual growth and progress. Imbibing

this learning whole heartedly, the coordinator teams from all the institutions have

worked hard to ensure that the second issue is even better than the first. We would like

to extend our heartfelt thanks to these faculty members and the Principals of all our

HSNC Board institutions, for their efforts to guarantee an e-magazine that will excite,

    motivate and inspire.

The first issue of Razzmatazz was successfully launched on the 10th of December 2015,

during the inauguration of the International Economics Convention and has since been

    appreciated by one and all.

The second issue, akin to the first, features the milestones and numerous achievements

of the various institutions of our HSNC Board family, this time for the period of

September to December 2015. From this second issue onwards the publication will

attribute and pay homage to our heritage by showcasing a range of Sindhi Art and

Culture to keep it alive since we are Sindhi Linguistic Minority Institutions for which our

founding fathers fought hard during the period 1993 to 2005. After long legal battle our

Board was successful in obtaining minority status under Article 30(i) of the Constitution

of India. As we all know Sindhis have largely contributed in their own way not only to

Sindhis but also to the World Community at large before and after the partition of India.

Sindhi Community have had number of Versatile Artists, Educationists, Medical Experts,

Engineers, Judges, Musicians, Singer, Social Workers, talk of any field on this Earth, you

are bound to come across a Sindhi either as a founder or at the top. Through

Razzmatazz, we shall bring before you some beautiful, heartwarming articles on our

culture and heritage, with a hope that you will all enjoy reading our wide and one of the

    oldest cultures.

As we persist in accomplishing our objective of bringing all the esteemed institutions of

this Board together, we ask for your continued support, since it is only with the

contribution and participation of every single member that our vision will be realized.

We hope that the second edition will prove to be an interesting read!

he Sindhu, the cradle of Indian Civilization - finds its most dramatic description in Rig Veda

(circa.1500BC). When the Vedic seer invokes heaven and earth, he also involves the Sindhu. In

Rig Veda Sindhu deity is worshipped like AGNI.

The great Sufi Saint and literary known hermit Shah Abdul Latif Bittai is one of the most significant

pious personality of Sindh province (now in Pakistan). This holy man cum institution is the

cornerstone of great spiritual cultural tradition, consisting of sacred and secular ideologies and

thinking. He was a Sufi scholar and saint, and considered one of the greatest poets of the Sindhi

language. His most famous written work is the Shah Jo Risalo, which is a master piece of Sindhi

Literature as well. The major themes of his poetry include Unity of God, Love for Prophet, religious

    tolerance and humanistic values.

The Hindu legacy of Jhulelal or the River /Varun Deity has its historical beginnings in Sind. On the

auspicious day of Cheti Chand, 2nd day from the new moon of first month, Mother Devki gave birth

to a blessed boy. A miracle hailed the child's birth. The baby opened his mouth and there flowed the

Sindhu with an old man sitting cross-legged on a Pala fish. The Pala fish is a fish which always

swims against the water current. It is a vehicle of God Varun. The child was named 'Udaichand.

Uday in Sanskrit means moon-beams. Udaichand was also called 'Uderolal' (Udero in Sanskrit

means 'one who has sprung from water'. He was also called 'Jhulelal' or the swinging child Lal

Uderolal, Varun Dev Doolhala & Zinda Pir.etc.

Among many Sindhis, there were few like Professor Ram Panjwani, Govind Malhi etc. who

rekindled the light of brotherhood and started with 'JEKO CHAWANDO JHULELAL TANHINJA

THINDA BERA PAAR' and all Sindhis from every nook and corner of the earth started remembering

and praying Daryashah ( king of waterbody). Filled with feelings of love and compassion for Sindhi

brethren in distress, he travelled from place to place reminding the Sindhis of blessed God and their

heritage, awakening them from their dire need for unity of the community and their living in

atmosphere of solidarity, universal love and brotherhood.

Only after this rekindling of the jyoti which reminded Sindhis of our Sindhi Jhulelal, things started

moving for all Sindhis. Performing prayers and having Baharano (holy fire) every month, made our

Sindhis more prosperous in every way. Jhulelal once again came as a redeemer. Uderolal said "light

one candle in a temple and water should be available for' Daat' (holy dip). In Sindhi it is called Tubi.

The seven symbolic things given by Uderolal form the essentials elements of Daryahi sect-believers

of Water -God. The seven are Verhyo - Ring, Light - earthen candle, Khantha -Pakhar, Deg- Ahuge

metallic vessel, Tegh - A sword (symbol of Vishnu), Dhokla- Damru (Lord Shiva's symbol , Jhari -

Kalsh , symbol of Brahma. Exquisitely decorated THAAL in the centre of which is placed the idol of

Uderolal; a Kunri (an earthern vessel) its mouth is covered with red cloth, full of water, kneaded

flour in the shape of a cone like SHIVLINGA, adorned with cloves , cardamoms, misri (sugarcandy)

are kept on either side of the Modak. The betelnuts (supari) is kept on top of the cone (known as

    T

modak) as it exhibits as Shivlinga. The garlands of red roses and marigold flowers adorn the

Bahrano Sahib. Fragrance springs from the burning incense sticks, candle flames. Small earthern

lights shine like twinkiling stars and which add beauty beyond words, to explain. Uderolal's

birthday is ' CHETI CHAND' which is celebrated as SINDHI NEW YEAR.

The Chej (male folk dance) and Jhumir (female folk dance) literally means crescendo, flood showers

or inundation of blessings. This dance form is a dance of joy.

However Sindhi's have remained disconnected 'separated by distance, new cultures and also

erosion of the language and ideals. Not having a homeland has meant no anchor for the entire

community. There are many signs that Sindhi Language and culture will die out in few more

generations if active steps are not taken to ensure it remains vibrant living language and culture.

There are many Seminars on dramas, dance and performing art & cultural activities are being

conducted by many Educational Institutions and NGO's with the help of NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR

THE PROMOTION OF SINDHI LANGUAGE - HRD MINISTRY of EDUCATION NEW DELHI, which

offers a unique opportunity to meet and mingle with families from around the world. It is a vibrant

gathering where Sindhi's network and exchange information and ideas making for better

understanding of Sindhi Art and Culture. Most important is that the younger generation gets to bask

in the cradle of their culture and learn by the example of the seniors what being Sindhi really is.
