The Re-new Mothers Trust focuses on those at the centre of the family; the mothers

themselves. Re-newmothers has been making a difference since 2011 by providing a

certificated and proven programme for mothers to regain their confidence, self-esteem,

communication, life management and self-motivation. The outcome is mothers that are

confident equipped for work, community and family life. All mothers can benefit from

our programme; inclusive of diversity, teen parents, depression, vulnerability, domestic

violence, life challenges, new mothers, or those who have many children and those

whose children who are disabled or unwell. All mothers need our help, support

and attention no matter what their situation. Mothers are the heart of our

family and communities. Re-new Mothers helps through free leadership

development of all its corporate, professional and community volunteers.

Re-new Mothers offers a 12 week programme

for mothers on benefits, who are in vulnerable

situations or needing to return to work.

The programme delivers a strong framework of core

skills and tools which focus on development of career

and vocational pathways, providing these mothers the

confidence for both themselves and their families. In

recognition of their achievement, participants are

awarded a Certificate in Community Leadership

following the 12 week programme. Re-new Mothers is a vital programme for all mothers

in New Zealand communities today. However, one

size does not fit all and to achieve excellence, we must

ensure each participant is given individual attention on

a case-by-case basis in order to achieve real learning,

and build confidence and change that will positively

affect the whole family, assisting mums to re-enter the

work-force confidently.

R E - N E W M O T H E R S P R O G R A M M E M E O U T C O M E S On successful completion of the Re-New Mothers Programme participants gain:

• Self-management, communication and interview skills

• Strengthened resilience and

comprehensive role management

• Leadership skills that extend towards their community

• Increase in self-image and confidence

• A career incentive and a career pathway entry

• Confidence to study, to gain and maintain employment,

plus uphold personal direction and self-management.

We want mothers to have confidence and self-identity

as women, saying no to violence, to alcohol, and to sedentary habits and lifestyle that have fed low

self-esteem. We want them to know how to keep

themselves and their children safe and how to manage

the educational/career/motherhood pathway for

themselves, their partner, and their children.

R E - N E W M O T H E R S P A T H W A Y Re-new Mothers is a mechanism to reduce the most

prolific social issues for women and mothers today,

through education, collaboration and building strong

networks for mothers that will strengthen their families.

“ The vision for Auckland City is for Auckland to be the world’s most liveable city. The vision for a more liveable world is to rebuild communities through mothers. The genesis of that vision starts at

home, in the family unit with mothers. Mothers are the core of a successful

family unit and a happy community.”

W H Y R E - N E W M O T H E R S ?

Mothers are the core of a successful family unit and a

caring community. Re-new Mothers Charter identifies

mothers and motherhood as the core of positive

families. We have an opportunity to build confident,

healthy families, communities, cities, and nations. If

we have confidence we relate better to each other and

this can only benefit our communities.

Re-new Mothers began in Auckland, New Zealand in

2011 and is now represented and available in

Australia. Recently established in Re-new others trust

is a division” Mothers without Borders “which aims to

link mothers through one culture - Motherhood.

Internationally we know… gone are the days when

women stayed at home managing the household and

looking after the children. Today women are recognised

with bigger roles to play in society. The contribution

of women in generating income for their families has

increased dramatically. Mothers are increasingly being

recognised as community builders but suffering mental

hardship in managing the home and work pressures.

Furthermore, mothers are often represented in the

vulnerable groups; violence, depression, migration

and “home/work balance” as they learn to balance

children alongside relationship issues that can

destabilise their confidence and see them parenting

more and more in emotional isolation.

When Re-new Mothers was founded 4 years ago it

was in response to the vision for Auckland to be the

world’s most liveable city.

Re-new Mothers believe that if we are serious about

achieving that vision, then the genesis of that starts in the

home with the family unit, led by mothers. To be the

world’s most liveable city we must first address some of

the realities that our mothers face on a daily basis.

The founder’s experience in forensic psychology has

greatly assisted in researching global issues and

community responses worldwide, to examine what

could affect positive change towards the global

needs of women? Re-new Mothers supports what is

seen globally as the core of a community’s strength;

women. Stronger Mothers Stronger Communities.

It is reported and widely accepted that women do

90% of the world’s work while women represent 1%

of the world’s property ownership. Women globally

are the builders and drivers behind many initiatives

for creating better communities and charities, that

respond quickly to social change.

N Z F A C T S A N D S T A T I S T I C S Police are called to approximately 200 domestic violence

situations every day of the year; that’s one every seven

minutes. The Police estimate that only 18% of violent

incidents in the home are reported. Source: NZ Stats

The corollary of that is that if all incidents were

reported, the Police could be attending as many as

1,000 call outs per day. In 2011 some 13,937 women

and 11,014 children needed help from The Women’s

Refuge. New Zealand has the second highest rate of

teen pregnancies among the developed world with

around 4,500 babies born to teenage mothers every

year. Some of these young mothers are not coping

and each year a number take their own lives leaving

behind young children to grow up without the love

and guidance of their mums. This picture requires

significant long term strategies to bring about change.

The Re-new Mothers Project has taken this up as our total focus in making a difference with the work we

do, serving, working with, and restoring confidence,

self-esteem, skills and providing support with

continuing education for at-risk mothers, resulting in a

restorative effect on Whanau.

Eight key areas are covered: population and families,

health, education, work, power and decision making,

violence against women, environment and poverty. In

each of these areas, statistics were identified, compiled,

processed and analysed, bringing to light findings on the

differences between the status of girls and boys, women

and men. In all regions, women live longer than men.

However, social, cultural and economic factors can affect

outcomes, creating greater gaps in coping, while

increasing vulnerability which leads to greater risk for

families. Stronger more confident mothers will enable

stronger and more confident communities.

Re-new Mothers is a vital programme for all mothers

in our communities today. One size does not fit all and

we must practice excellence, all the time, to ensure

each mother is given targeted attention on a case by

case basis. This allows us to affect real learning and

positive, constructive, confidence change that will have

a positive effect on the whole family, assisting mums

to re-enter the work-force confidently.

As its goal, the Re-new Mothers Trust wishes to initiate

responsible exchange and collaboration between

business and the community. This is the active part of

Re-new Mothers as community mentors are introduced

at Phase Two of the programme. The mothers receive

mentoring in supervised and guided mentoring sessions.

Formed on the belief that family and children are

everyone’s responsibility; it belongs as a responsibility

to us all to support the confidence and health of mothers

so that we may deliver this to family and community. www.re-newmothers.com 5

“ We have identified the need and want; to rebuild the core

identity of community through strong confident mothers.”

Volunteers for childcare to allow mothers to attend the wider community to enable them to sustain the course without the worry of where their children the skills learnt and networks established through will be during this time. the programme, while remaining supported and

therefore strengthening community.

After four years of voluntary work testing the

pilot project, Re-new Mothers is now established

as a registered Charitable Trust, with an

incorporated Board of Trustees.

Already a proven programme, it provides mentoring

and training for community volunteers. Our

programme began in Orakei, Auckland, New Zealand

and has expanded in the north to Walkworth and in the

south to Manakau. It is now expanding its network and

its work into Australia. Through other agencies

working with mothers, Re-new Mothers wants to

ensure it continues to return a minimum of 73% of

participating mothers back to work and education.

To offer the programme with capacity to grow and

pro-active leadership and management to deliver a

more seamless process to allow us to sustain roles

that have been largely volunteer based to deliver

real value to mothers. With the current rate of

expansion of our programmes, these largely

volunteer roles will be stretched as the demand and

expansion of area coverage grows.

To be able to find ways to enrol corporate and

broader community as mentors to break down

cultural barriers, to develop networks and both

reduce social issues and highlight what is

often unseen and unheard.

To provide a website for education and a portal for

discussion and collaboration between mothers and

Comprehensive assessment as one size does not

fit all – assimilation of tools to individuals.

Workshop with mothers in the same cohort,

children under 5, children 5-14, children over 14

and to provide social support and structure beyond

the programme.

After workshop sessions, one on one sessions to

develop and plan for job, career and family future and

on-going self-esteem maintenance and development.

Graduation into the mentor package in which

mothers receive five mentoring sessions with a

community mentor from a range of fields;

corporate, medical, education, and building

industries, that want to help as they prepare to

balance change, self-management into work or

career, and enhance their self-esteem.

The mentors and mothers are all together in one

room and follow structured self-leadership tools

taught by the programme facilitators as part of their

development. The mentor and mother learn side by side and then teach these tools onto the mother

as part of a group led mentoring session with take

home work. This enhances community leadership

networks and the mother’s development side by

side with community leaders.

What do we want our graduates of the re-

mothers programme to learn, feel or do? The need we serve is to provide self-confidence tools to

support mothers who want to know how to say no to

violence, alcohol and any lifestyle habits that have

contributed to low self-esteem. The programme focuses

on how to support families and their children to be safe

and to learn how to manage their family and career or

learning pathway. This programme is taught with the

energy of Mankitanga, we are all one people united and working towards the same goals,

all mothers all there for the same outcomes. The

entire focus is tools and cognitive behavioural

techniques to develop and maintain self-confidence.

Referral process for New Zealand Fill in our referral form, scan and send this to Re-new

mothers. We will text and call mum and extend to her

to an invitation to a seminar where she will be able to

decide for herself and enrol. You are welcome to

come with your referred client to the invitation

seminar which is for 45 minutes. We cover the entire

Auckland area and have 4 areas, North, South, East

and West and we also work in Matakana.

Questions to ask your clients who you

consider they need this programme - Are you seeking the self-esteem that you feel will

help you to be able to direct your life in a better

way and make better decisions?

- Are you in need of help and support to find and

attain career pathways and work?

- Do you sometimes feel lost and wonder why

you haven’t got what another person has?

- Do you need communication skills to be able to

both direct what you want in life and enable you to

come away from difficult situations or things?

- Do you need more skills to be able to know how to

get what you want in life?

- Do you need more skills or tools to be able to deal

with difficulties with family, home or children?

- Do you feel lost at times about whom you are? - Do you need to revisit what it are to also be a

woman as well as a mother?

- Do you find it hard to say no or to manage people

who are pushy?

- Do you get angry and not know what to do with

your anger or find yourself doing destructive

things for yourself or others?

- Do you need a step by step plan and the tools to

learn how to build your self-confidence?

- Do you want and need to meet new and interesting

people and learn from them with a total focus from

you to build a better life for you and your family?
