A Message From Your Grand Knight . . . . . .
My Brother Knights and Families: Vivat Jesus!!
I hope everyone had a joyous holiday season.
As the New Year begins we find 788 as busy as ever with church, council and corporation activities. Our Annual Wild Game Dinner on January 19th will be held at Father Weber hall again this year; tickets are available at the club, but hurry if you plan to attend because this event ALWAYS sells out. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the setup, working games or serving dinner and tearing down after. Contact chairman, Ken Morrison (517-719-4047) if you are available to help. The weekend continues with the Annual chili cook off and football party on Sunday the 20th. Everyone is welcome, so I hope to see you there.
A new event being offered the Knights and their families is the concealed weapons class taught by Deacon, Dick Savage. The class is scheduled for February, 2nd at the club; the cost is $100.00 per person. If you are interested or have questions contact me (Mike Schaefer) at 517-242-4961 to sign up.
I would like to bring everyone’s attention to the baby bottle currently sitting on the bar at the club. Yes I said baby bottle on the bar. It is not there for milk or a baby, but for a different kind of MoooooLa, one that will help local families and individuals through the Shared Pregnancy Program. As Knights, we support this program on a state level as well as locally through St. Gerard Parish so please consider donating your loose change, spare dollars or the money that last year would have went into the “swear jar” to this worthy cause and make a difference one small baby bottle at a time. Thank You!
I would like to take a minute and thank all those members that helped decorate the hall for the holiday season especially the Ladies Auxiliary who year in and year out support the Knights and our council so graciously. Thanks ladies, we couldn’t do it without you!!
Upcoming Events: • December 30th Family Mass 9:00 AM at St. Gerard • DECEMBER 31ST NEW YEAR’S EVE, CLUB OPENS AT 4:00 PM • January 4th Friday Fish Fry 5:00-7:00 PM • January 19th Wild Game Dinner, Father Weber Hall 5:30 - ? • January 20th Chili Cook off and Football • January 25th Family Dinner 5:30 – 7:30 PM • February 1st Friday Fish Fry 5:00 – 7:00 PM • February 2nd Concealed Weapons Class 9:00 – 3:00

THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - IN SERVICE TO ONE, IN SERVICE TO ALL
Richard Council 788 Honor Roll
From The Corporation President Jay G. Corey
Our WILD GAME DINNER preparation is in its final high gear stage for this annual event which will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. Gerard Father Weber Hall. This is a great event with 300 in attendance and all sorts of wild game to taste, guns, rifles, and the like to win, and a big money maker for us. Tickets are now on sale for $30.00 each, with raffle tickets available for the Early Bird Gun Raffle. We are also going to have a squirrel hunt on January 5th, and a rabbit hunt on January 13th. You may purchase your tickets at the club, or by calling R. Jay Kussmaul at 323-2922. This is always a sellout, so get your tickets now !!!!!!!!
January 20th we will again be having our annual Chili Fest and watching the playoff games in preparation for the Super Bowl. The event begins at 2pm and is only $5.00 per person to taste some of the best chili this side of the western frontier. If you bring in a pot of chili, you admittance is FREE. My thanks to Rich Rybicki who is again hosting this event. Come on down and have some fun on Sunday, January 20th. And, don’t forget the Super Bowl party which will be held this year on Sunday, February 3rd. Time to be announced later but New Orleans is ready, and the club is getting ready for you.
My thanks to all the ladies who helped decorate the club this year for the Christmas holiday. As always, you did a great job and my thanks to all that helped. I hope everyone had a great holiday and is welcoming in the New Year. I hope this year is better than last, and that more of you will participate in our events at the club.
From Your Editor Jay G. Corey

FAMILY OF THE MONTH
The McCrackin Family
From The Council Financial Secretary Jim Warner
It’s that time of the year again . . . dues billings will be coming out in the next 30 days! I’m going to try a couple of new processes this year which are being used by other councils and have proven to be very successful.
First, those of you for which we have valid e-mail addresses will be receiving the first billing electronically. Simply print out the billing and mail back with your dues payment. This will save the council the costs associated with billings (paper, printer ink, envelopes, and postage) we will be issuing the first round of billings via e-mail. Please keep in mind that any funds we can save during the billing process reflects directly on our operating expenses which could be passed onto the deserving charities we support – so please consider using the e-mail process.
Please - Please - Please . . . If you have a new e-mail address, or just want to verify that we have your current address, drop me a quick note at [email protected] so we can update our records. Secondly, we will be separating the dues billing from the voluntary contributions sections of the yearly invoices. Many members have asked for this so we will make a trial run at it this year. This should also help to eliminate any confusion and make it easier to identify what you owe vs. your contribution options. Please note that, while your Knights of Columbus dues ARE NOT tax deductible, many of your voluntary contributions are “pass through” funds which go directly to the charity and are tax deductible – more information to follow.
If, for any reason, you have concerns about your dues payment, or are having difficulty in paying due to financial concerns or illness, please do not hesitate to contact our Grand Knight Mike Schaefer or myself so we can work it out. All billing information is kept confidential so don’t hesitate to ask. Please respond in a timely manner and do not just ignore your billings.
Also, all of our billing and member records now are on Supreme Council’s computerized Member Management System. In order to keep your records current, please update or add any missing information on the form enclosed in the billing statement, (e.g., telephone, email, employment, address – especially you snowbirds). Remember, the FS address, telephone number, & e-mail are on the back of your membership card, so you have no reason to say that you did not know how to contact me.
Please contact me immediately of any change in your information. You may contact me at 517-321-1507 (home), 517-719-6794 (cell/text), mailing me at 2120 Cumberland Road, Lansing Michigan 48906, or by e-mailing me at [email protected]. Thank you all and see you at the next Council meeting next year.
Congratulations To PGK Brian Peacock
Our own PGK Brian Peacock has recently retired from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department after 26 years of service. Brian was hired in 1986 as a deputy and was promoted to Sergeant in 1997, Captain in 2000, and Chief Deputy in 2003. During his career Brian was instrumental in educating the youth of Eaton County through the safety programs offered at the Sheriff’s office which included Boater’s Safety, ATV Safety, Snowmobile Safety and Hunter’s Safety. Our thanks to Brian for all he has done in the past protecting the citizens of Eaton County and giving of his time and talents to the Knights of Columbus. Well done Brian !!!!!

From The Ladies Auxiliary By Vice-President Pattie Schaefer I would like to welcome our newest members Sue and Charlene, we are glad to have you both on board.
This year’s Dinner and craft auction was a success. It was well attended and after expenses the Ladies made $2500.00, which will go a long way in assisting local charities. Thank you to everyone who brought a snack or a dish to pass and a craft item to be auctioned off.
The ladies will once again be preparing and selling the desserts for the first Friday and Lenten Fish Fry’s, so if you haven’t signed up to furnish a dessert or help sell the goodies yet please do so; spreading out the duties/work makes it easier for all.
In talking to some fellow members it has been suggested that the Ladies look into “field trips” and possibly invite speakers to come in periodically and give a presentation as part of our meetings. This will be open for discussion at the next meeting. We are also looking at reviewing the charities that we traditionally donate to and possibly make adjustments to the current list. If you have ideas for field trips, speakers or charities, bring the information to the February meeting. We will also be looking at the by-laws. Don’t forget there is no January meeting so February is our next scheduled meeting.
All Catholic women are invited to join the Ladies Auxiliary at 788; if you are interested in becoming a member we meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM. New members are always welcome.
Here’s to 2013; may it be everything you hope for.

4TH Degree Bishop Albers #496 News By PGK Dave Luedtke
Two years ago, after an absence of almost 10 years, Lansing was proud to host a 4th Degree Exemplification honoring our very own Supreme Director Thomas M. Wegener. Bishop Albers Assembly #0496 stood behind him and brought in 94 new Sir Knight candidates into the 4th Degree. 34 of those Candidates were from Richard Council #0788.
I am happy to announce that because of our steady performance two years ago, we will once again be hosting, along with the new Lansing Assembly #3334, the 65th Michigan District II Exemplification honoring our very own District Friar Msgr. George Michalak and Former Master Dennis and Lady Maxine Henderson. This event will be held at our very own St Gerard Parish. The host hotel will once again be the Lexington Hotel on Creyts Rd.
I know that many of you were planning on attending this wonderful Degree but for some reason were unable to. Well, now it is your turn. If you or a friend were unable to attend please consider attending the wonderful experience with your wife. Mark your calendar now so you don’t miss this opportunity. April 5th and 6th. There will be a Friday night social gathering and the Degree festivities will start with a Ladies Program at 9:00, along with registration of the Candidates. Please plan on attending to show our support of our Former Master, his lovely Lady and Msgr. Michalak. For questions, please call Faithful Navigator Dave Luedtke at 517-303-5555 or Faithful Comptroller Ken Watterson at 517-881-0812. There are flyers and information sheets at our Hall at 5300 N. Grand River Ave. Lansing, Michigan 48906.
