IT'S NOT A PARTY WITHOUT PERU

Carlos and Javier are two Peruvians currently living in New York City. They had enrolled themselves in a prestigious cooking school and their teacher had asked them to share with the class some of the rich and vast peruvian flavor that they had learned, back when they still cooked ceviche and lomo saltado in their home country.

The beef and the pork were cut by Javier while Carlos was left in charge of preparing the dressing. They had agreed the day before that the best choice was anticuchos with smoked pork and an assortment of peruvian potatos to close the feast. After the meal was prepared, they asked for everybody's attention: "Our friends, we present you with some of the best our cuisine may offer, but the experience has to be completed with more Peru"

"What do you mean with 'more Peru'?" asked one classmate. A sound was blasted from the stereo with loud drums and rhythmic guitars. Carlos had put a song and Javier had to introduce it: "This is called Festejo: this genre was made when african, european and andean people in Peru got together to celebrate". He also said that this song was sung by Oscar Avils. The classmates had been surprised when Carlos and Javier shared the stories of peruvian food and how parties were held in Peru. At the end, one of them stood up and said: "You were right, my friends, it's not a party without Peru".

The grandchildrenhas finish setting the table for Thanksgiving dinner. My aunthad madetwo pies for dessert, a pumpkin pie and an apple pie. My brother and Ihad peeledthe carrots and the potatoes. Wehadjustturn onthe stove to start cooking the vegetables when the power went out! The oven stopped working! We couldnt cook the vegetables! The turkey wouldnt finish cooking! We waited. We talked. We went for a walk.

Wewaittwo hours by the time the power came back on. Wehadalmostgiven up hope. Dinner was late that night but it was a Thanksgiving dinner that we wont forget.
