Johnny Dorigo Jones Application Part (d) Reading List for the High School Honors Science, Math, and Engineering Program 1. The Particle at the End of the Universe by Sean Carroll In this, I have highlighted material on every page. I absolutely loved this book because it is a great introduction to Accelerator and Nuclear Physics. The author speaks of the discovery of the Higgs Boson at the Large Hadron Collider in technical terms while defining particles, waves, energies, and much more. 2. The Sky is Not the Limit by Neil deGrasse Tyson I have always adored Neil Tyson; he is the embodiment of many qualities I wish to have as I grow up. In his autobiography he details his path to loving Science and the Universe. I find many of his anecdotes personally touching because I have also experienced them. When I saw him speak at a lecture in Detroit, I could not stop listening to his Star Talk radio shows and reading his blog posts. I even based my research paper topic on a main field of his interest: preserving space exploration in America. 3. Astronomy magazine I have been reading this magazine for a few months. I absolutely love reading about the different discoveries and research projects that occur around the world every day. I hope to be in such a magazine one day. 4. Scientific American magazine I am not subscribed to this magazine, but I have received a few issues from my Honors Latin teacher, Mr. Anthony Cornish, who has been central in forming my scientific interest. This magazine covers many topics that I do not care for, which is why Astronomy suits my interests much better. 5. Scientific blogs The blogs that I check on a daily basis are: Symmetry, Quantum Diaries, Space, NASA Image of the Day, and CERN. 6. Grammatical blogs

Reading List for the High School Honors Science, Math, and Engineering Program

1. The Particle at the End of the Universe by Sean CarrollIn this, I have highlighted material on every page. I absolutely loved this book because it is a great introduction to Accelerator and Nuclear Physics. The author speaks of the discovery of the Higgs Boson at the Large Hadron Collider in technical terms while defining particles, waves, energies, and much more.

2. The Sky is Not the Limit by Neil deGrasse TysonI have always adored Neil Tyson; he is the embodiment of many qualities I wish to have as I grow up.

3. Astronomy magazineI have been reading this magazine for a few months. I absolutely love reading about the different discoveries and research projects that occur around the world every day. I hope to be in such a magazine one day.

4. Scientific American magazineI am not subscribed to this magazine, but I have received a few issues from my Honors Latin teacher, Mr. Anthony Cornish, who has been central in forming my scientific interest. This magazine covers many topics that I do not care for, which is why Astronomy suits my interests much better.

5. Scientific blogsThe blogs that I check on a daily basis are: Symmetry, Quantum Diaries, Space, NASA Image of the Day, and CERN.

6. Grammatical blogsAlthough Science is my most prominent passion, I also love grammatical and syntactical fluency and accuracy. I subscribe to Grammar Girl and the Grammarist because I love having grammatical knowledge that improves my writing, and, thus, my future scientific publications.

7. Haphazard scientific readingsI have read articles ranging from terraforming Venus and the atmosphere of Triton to Neutrino oscillation and Dark Energy mapping. I love learning about anything (scientific) I can get my hands on!
