REMINDER: The Guild’s regular meeting time is 7 PM!

April Meeting: “Just Look—Don’t Touch” Challenge Show

Come early to the April Guild meeting so you’ll have time to browse

Challenge 2019, a display of more than 45 quilt show signs designed by

members to remind the public to view our quilts without touching.

Guests are welcome, but only members can vote. Pick up your ballot

near the membership table and vote for your 4 favorites—each quilt will

have a number. Voting will end midway through the break, when

participants will be asked to collect their entries and line up in numerical

order for the parade. I'm pleased to have Patti Hunter assist me with the

reading of entry details.

Info for Participants: Please let me know if you are unable to attend April's meeting so I can arrange a

substitute to hold your sign during the parade. If you have multiple entries, join the parade according to your

lowest entry number, then arrange your entries from lowest to highest (only your entry with the highest ballot

count will be eligible for an award.) Pillowcases will be available for pick up after the awards are given.

Have a great idea for a 12” x 12” quilt show sign? I’ll be happy to accept your contribution at any future

meeting. Thank you.

May Speaker and Workshop

Rami Kim: “Asian Designs in a Modern World”

Our speaker in May will be Rami Kim, a DNA scientist turned fabric artist/

quilter/instructor known nationally and internationally. She is a 19-time Best of

Show winner, distinguished for her innovative art-to-wear. Her passion is in

contemporary art-to-wear, quilts, cloth dolls, and bags with special interest in

3-dimensional textures. She is known for her own distinctive colors and

techniques.

On May 10, Rami will conduct a workshop entitled “Folded Square & Hexagon

for Cross Stitch & Pieced Quilts.” Because the pieces include built-in backing,

your quilts will already be backed and quilted once all of the “hexies” are

pieced together. Examples are on the Workshop table; register for the workshop at the table or contact

Margaret Dear ([email protected]).

Interim Chair’s Message

Hurray, we have almost filled the vacant board slots with nominees. We still need a nominee to parliamentarian. I am sure that someone from the guild will come forward and agree to be nominated for this position. Just a reminder, the general membership will vote on the start time of the general meeting in May. If you want your voice to be heard, please be present and vote.

We are almost past the bad weather. The sun is shining and the birds are singing, sometimes! Bright colors are appearing on all the quilt shop web sites and in local quilt shops. Take a look and get fresh ideas for that next quilt. Of course, after you have made at least one veterans’ quilt for the Visiting Nurse and Hospice pinning program. We plan to give the quilts in July to VNA.

Think good thoughts, find that bit of sunlight and quilt on.

Linda Boynton de Sepulveda, Guild Interim Chair

Annual Business Meeting & Election in May!

In accordance with our by-laws, please note that the annual members’ meeting will be held on

Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 7:00pm during which we will vote on the nominated slate of officers for

fiscal year 2019/2020. In addition, the Board would like members to make the decision on the time

our meetings shall start so you will be voting on that too.

One position has opened as of this date — to be our Parliamentarian. It is imperative that we fill this

position so please consider stepping up. Contact Linda Boynton de Sepulveda at

[email protected] if you are interested.

Nominated Slate of Officers:

Karen Pickford, President*

Susan Katz, Vice President, Programs

Sherry Lafler, Recording Secretary

Rochelle Schneider, Corresponding Secretary

Marcia Greiten, Treasurer

Vacant, Parliamentarian

Pamela Holst, Speaker Liaison

Margaret Dear, Workshop Coordinator

Sue Orfila, Membership

Gwynn Hladyniuk, Public Relations

Please come a little early to mark your ballot and put it in the ballot box. Votes will be counted at the

break, and the results announced thereafter. There will be a space for write-in votes.

*For health reasons, Debbi Haeberle resigned her current position as President on March 25, 2019,

and said she will not seek election for a new term in May. We thank Debbi for her service this year

and send her our Guild’s best wishes.

Block of the Month News

Sixteen wonderful Irish Chain blocks-of-the-month are presented in this photo by BoM Chair Nancy Butterfield. The blocks were won by Diana Hamilton, who graciously gave them to another contributor, Joyce Ball. A bit o' Green Generosity was at play this month! This March Block of the Month was originally published in 2005, created by Becky Gallup and MaryAnn Huggins. Many thanks to all who contributed these Lucky Charms!!

The May BoM is especially important because of the opportunity for our guild to honor our military

veterans, past and present. Please consider making multiple blocks to be included in quilts that will

be created for service members in our community.

In recognition of this effort, for this month only, all blocks will be donated to Community Quilts rather

than to a BoM participants’ drawing. Let's show the Flag in a big way this month!

Nancy Butterfield, BoM Chair

Amnesty Declared: Please Return Guild Binders

Do you have a guild binder from a past or recent assignment as a Guild officer, committee chair,

quilt show volunteer, or other guild job? If so, please turn it in to the library book-return box. Guild

Librarian Carol Hart has graciously volunteered to create a check-out system so binders can be

more easily tracked. No questions asked, no recriminations, psychic burden lifted!

Library News

The library will be closed in April except for returns and donations.

I will step down as Librarian after June's meeting and I will be happy to elaborate the job’s duties

with anyone interested in serving as the next Librarian. This job has been delightful while providing

a nice opportunity to get to know more members. I learned so much as I became familiar with our

collection that I have a new “future projects” wish list. This job isn't too demanding; it is mostly

setting up, being "open" prior to the business portion of the meeting and during break, then putting

away the books. The "circulation desk" was cleverly fitted into a perfect basket by a previous library

team.

Carol Hart, Librarian

Parking: Please Don’t Back In

As common courtesy to neighbors with homes adjacent to the St.

Andrews parking lot, members are asked not to back in to parking

spaces on the housing side of the lot. Pull straight in, to avoid

inflicting unwelcome exhaust fumes and lights on the neighbors.

Thank you for being considerate.

Opportunity Alert: Editor Needed

Interested in being next year’s Coastlines editor? Please contact current editor, Heather Georgakis,

[email protected].

Monthly duties include soliciting and editing articles from guild officers and committee chairs; it is

helpful but not required for the editor to attend board meetings. The editor is part of a great team

including other guild members who handle the layout, printing, e-delivery and web posting of

monthly Coastlines content.

The new editor will take over for the July issue (work begins in mid-June); plenty of guidance will be

available. If you’re looking for a fun way to connect with other guild members, this is it!
