Dominant reading- The creator intended to make the characters look young and intimidating, the group of youths look strong and powerful as they stand their in a solid group with no fear or worry on their faces. Negotiated reading- The audience could actually interpret this picture in the wrong way and see the characters to be rough and mean youths, due to their prison overalls and their posture could be perceived to be aggressive and intimidating. Oppositional reading- The audience could see the characters in the opposite way then what the creator intended, the audience could see the characters to be weak and stupid, as some inmates are stereotyped to lack intelligence and the audience may think they are weak characters as they have to break the law to live. Dominant reading- The creator intended to make the males look powerful and bold, as they look official and smart in their suits. Yet the women are seen to be in the background and inferior to the men as they need to wear flashy and skin tight clothing to be noticed. Oppositional reading- The audience could see the characters in an opposite way to what the creator intended. The audience could see the women to be in charge, as they are in height order and the women are at the top and the men follow. Also the women look mischievous like they are dragging the men along and controlling them. Dominant reading- The creator would want the audience to see the two characters as equal, even though the girl is poor and the male is rich, they are equal in their ways and should not be treated differently, this is shown through them shaking hands and being kind to one another. Oppositional reading- Some members of the audience could see this differently and might see the two characters to be un equal as the girl is in dark and rough clothing and is towards the window, leading out of the house, having a look into what she cant have. Theboy is seen to be of a higher class as he is in smart and clean clothing and is towards the inside of the house that shows that they do belong in different places.

Dominant reading- The creator intended to make the characters look young and intimidating, the group of youths look strong and powerful as they stand their in a solid group with no fear or worry on their faces. Negotiated reading- The audience could actually interpret this picture in the wrong way and see the characters to be rough and mean youths, due to their prison overalls and their posture could be perceived to be aggressive and intimidating.Oppositional reading- The audience could see the characters in the opposite way then what the creator intended, the audience could see the characters to be weak and stupid, as some inmates are stereotyped to lack intelligence and the audience may think they are weak characters as they have to break the law to live.

Dominant reading- The creator intended to make the males look powerful and bold, as they look official and smart in their suits. Yet the women are seen to be in the background and inferior to the men as they need to wear flashy and skin tight clothing to be noticed.Oppositional reading- The audience could see the characters in an opposite way to what the creator intended. The audience could see the women to be in charge, as they are in height order and the women are at the top and the men follow. Also the women look mischievous like they are dragging the men along and controlling them.

Dominant reading- The creator would want the audience to see the two characters as equal, even though the girl is poor and the male is rich, they are equal in their ways and should not be treated differently, this is shown through them shaking hands and being kind to one another.Oppositional reading- Some members of the audience could see this differently and might see the two characters to be un equal as the girl is in dark and rough clothing and is towards the window, leading out of the house, having a look into what she cant have. Theboy is seen to be of a higher class as he is in smart and clean clothing and is towards the inside of the house that shows that they do belong in different places.

Page 2: Readings and representation

Areas of representation- Age is not really an area focused on in this still shot, however the man on the right looks a lot more mature and a bit older then the others in the photo as he is in a suit. This could show that older people are inferior, as he is at the back of the photo looking like he's trying to catch up. There is a mix of gender in this still shot, there are three men and two women, so they are not equal as there are more men then women. However the two women are in thee middle and not at the back, this shows that they are seen to be equal to the males. There is only one black man in this still shot and he is located again at the back, all the others are white, which could show a lack of ethnic equality.

Dominant Reading- The creator would have wanted the audience to see the characters as strong and powerful individuals. The women are seen to be equal as they are in front and behind men, so they are not in the men's shadow. Also the creator would want the women to also look strong and powerful as individuals as they stand alone and are not cowering behind a man like some do in other still shots, they are stood alone, self efficient and strong.

Negotiated Reading- The audience could see this still shot in the wrong way and see the group in the photo to me rough, and cruel due to their clothing, as if they were about to cause trouble. Also the women and man in the suit could be seen the be stuck up or over confident. This view would be made by the individual viewer.
