ICD-10 presents a whole new diagnosis coding system for the entire medical industry.

ICD-10 will contain triple the number of codes.

It is anticipated claim processing will be slow while insurance companies switch systems.

Although ICD-10 doesn’t take effect until 2014, it is important to get a head start on preparation for the new diagnostic coding system. The financial and economic impact on private practice will be significant. All insurance carriers will need to update software and get a new system in place. It is recommended that a practice reserve six months’ overhead because payment from carriers is likely to be slow

during the transition. This is a tremendous financial impact for any dental office that consistently bills medical carriers. She utilizes audience interaction and works through attendees’ real life scenarios from their offices to cement the learning as she walks them – step by step – through the process. Attendees receive a detailed handout including a full range of scenarios and coding examples. They leave empowered to implement the learning back at the office.

Terri’s extensive hands-on experience (25 years), including management of a multi-doctor Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice, laid the foundation for her current success as a practice management speaker and consultant. She keeps her finger on the pulse of current policy updates and changes in the insurance industry as she continues to work with dental offices daily. Terri offers medical/dental cross coding presentations for dental audiences across the country, as well as coding and billing workshops for OMS audiences. Terri is a member of the Academy of Dental Management Consultants, Speaking Consulting Network, Directory of Dental Speakers and the Medical Group Management Association.
