Prof. Dr. Kola Akinsomi is an Associate Professor in Real Estate Finance & Investments at the University of Witwatersrand (WITS), South Africa and Chief Economist of RealQuant Analytics.

Prof. Dr. Akinsomi is the Vice-President of the African Real Estate Society, Director of the International Real Estate Society and Chair of the Future Leaders of the American Real Estate Society.

He is on the Advisory Forum of the South African Council of Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP). He has published numerous reports and studies in international property journals.

Participants will be introduced to the real estate valuation process including sourcing for information and methods employed in valuing income-producing properties. John started his own valuation practice in 2007 where he was tasked with various types of property valuations, valuation objections and Appeal Board hearings for government and private businesses properties nationally. Prior to that he worked as a professional valuer (Valuation Manager) for Pangbourne Properties as well as for Transnet Pension Fund as a property valuer. John has over 16 years of practical valuation experience.

He lectures property valuation at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) as a sessional lecturer since 2007. John is passionate about transforming the valuation industry as well as strives to improve training/education for candidate/professional valuers in South Africa.

John also registered the Black Professional Valuation Association (BPVA) in 2010 to be a mouth piece for disadvantaged valuers and upcoming valuers as well as provide training and support to valuers.

Marimo graduated with an engineering degree in 2014 and began his career in the in civil engineering profession. Marimo went on to pursue a master’s degree in Property Development and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand and subsequently transitioned into the property industry in 2017.

Upon transitioning into the property industry, Marimo completed the Certified Property Management course offered by IREM and qualified as a Candidate Certified Property Manager (CPM®).

Dr Alex Pham (范 英 俊) is an expert in real estate finance with a unique blend of academic knowledge and industry experience. Alex is commercially savvy and passionate about how new technologies and innovations will change the way people live, work and play in the future. His in-depth knowledge spans across multiple markets in Europe, Asia and Australia. Alex’s academic research has been published in several leading real estate journals.

Mabuse holds a BSc Property Studies (Hons) degree and an MSc in Building both from the University of the Witwatersrand. Mabuse has 13 years of property experience across various disciplines within the sector. Mabuse began his career in 2007 with Nedbank Corporate in the Property Finance division as a Candidate Valuer. Thereafter he would join Investec Bank’s as an Investment Analyst with a specific focus to listed property.

Yener Coskun, Assoc. Prof., have currently both government experience and academic background. He has been working for Capital Markets Board of Turkey since 1995 by specifically focusing on investment banking, institutional investments, REITs, and other capital market activities. At the academic side, his research areas are financial economics and housing macroeconomy. Yener spent 10 months at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (2002–2003)

Craig is an Associate Director of JLL’s Capital Markets team in Sub-Saharan Africa. Craig focuses on delivering the execution of Sub-Saharan Africa Capital Markets mandates for local, regional and global clients across the region. Craig has over 7 years of experience in the real estate industry.
