This year is different of course, with the COVID-19 shutdown, I have worked very little the past few months. I want to do my part to be a good citizen, and my business was not an essential one during a pandemic. High school and college graduations, senior photos, and coming into the wedding season, we all know these are huge moments in our lives, and they deserve to be photographed. I am still not sure what will happen with the weddings I am scheduled to shoot this summer, but I have started to shoot some graduation and senior photos. Social distancing is not too hard to do when shooting portraits, especially outside, and we all know how beautiful spring is in Oregon. Right now, graduates are experiencing a huge change in normal celebrations. Consider honoring your graduate, family, and loved ones with a socially distanced portrait session. This time of year is perfect for outdoor shoots! I encourage everyone to do their best to photograph these moments. Even if you cannot hire a professional photographer right now, nearly everyone has a phone with a

quality camera. Here are a few tips and ideas to get better pictures of these moments:• If you are shooting a portrait of someone,

do it outside, with both of you in the shade. The light will be even on their face and much more pleasing.

• Get close, and I mean closer than you think, fill the frame with the subject, if you are shooting a portrait you want to fill the frame with the face and shoulders.

• Have the subject stand a least 10 feet from the background (20 feet is ideal). This will give your photo a pleasing background that does not distract from the subject.

• Most important is to take photos and take them of everything, sitting around the table doing schoolwork, your senior decorating their mortar board, the zoom graduation, etc.

Photos are the best way to remember these moments. Even if the photos are from your phone, print them out so they are not lost forever when your computer crashes or you get a new phone.If you are looking for professional photos, whether it is for your high school senior, business website, or a new headshot for your
